Jhonattan Vegas defended his title at the RBC Canadian Open and in his after-round interview with CBS, Vegas told Dottie Pepper that he “made a little bit of a change with my Mizuno irons.”

Indeed he did. Vegas had been using the company’s prototype MP-18 irons since the Shell Houston Open, but had his Mizuno MP-4 irons shipped to him this week. The MP-4’s are a classic, better-players muscleback blade. Vegas used the 8-iron in that said to hit an 8-iron out of the fairway bunker on the first playoff hole—the par-5 18th—that nicked the lip but landed on the green and rolled off. The ensuing up-and-down for birdie was good enough when Charley Hoffman could not match it. For the week Vegas hit 75 percent of his greens in regulation.
