Nordqvist beats Altomare in playoff to win Evian major

EVIAN-LES-BAINS, France (AP) Defying driving rain and hail in a playoff, Anna Nordqvist beat unheralded American Brittany Altomare at the first extra hole to win the Evian Championship on Sunday.

Nordqvist took the fifth and final major of the season by sinking a 4-foot putt for a bogey 5 on the soaked 18th hole while the 102nd-ranked Altomare had a six.

Course workers removed pools of standing water from the 18th green as the players approached the putting surface after their third shots. The par-4 hole played long all afternoon and was near-treacherous for the playoff.

”I am from Sweden and I’m freezing,” said Nordqvist, who was confined to bed for two weeks in July by a bout of mononucleosis. ”I feel like I’m pretty used to bad conditions and that was probably some of the worst I’ve seen.”

The 30-year-old Nordqvist earned $547,500 for the win, her first major since the 2009 LPGA Championship.

Altomare got $340,000 for only her second career top-10 finish, three weeks after..

Wattel wins KLM Open for 1st victory in 187 tournaments

SPIJK, Netherlands (AP) Romain Wattel shot a steady 2-under 69 Sunday to finish 15 under and win the KLM Open, the Frenchman’s first victory in 187 tournaments on the European Tour.

Wattel, who posted a 7-under 64 to move into contention on Saturday, had four birdies and two bogeys in the final round and parred his final seven holes to close out his maiden win.

The 26-year-old Frenchman said he has been struggling for two years with his putter, but finally found his touch again this week.

”My putting was very, very good,” he said, ”I knew that if I could get to the green in regulation I was fine.”

Overnight leader Kiradech Aphibarnrat of Thailand blew his chance of victory by finding the water and shooting double bogeys on the 15th and 18th holes. He finished on 12 under in a five-way tie for ninth.

Aphibarnrat was in the middle of the fairway on the 18th, but dumped his second shot into the water as he attempted to reach the green in two. He slammed his club into the grass a..

McKenzie, Smith share Champions lead in Victoria

VICTORIA, British Columbia (AP) David McKenzie birdied the final six even-numbered holes for a 7-under 64 and a share of the lead with Jerry Smith on Saturday in the PGA Tour Champions’ Pacific Links Bear Mountain Championship.

VICTORIA, British Columbia (AP) David McKenzie birdied the final six even-numbered holes for a 7-under 64 and a share of the lead with Jerry Smith on Saturday in the PGA Tour Champions’ Pacific Links Bear Mountain Championship.

McKenzie, the 50-year-old Australian who Tuesday qualified to get in the field, began the unique run on the par-4 eighth and added birdies on Nos. 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 to match Smith at 12-under 130 on Bear Mountain’s Mountain Course.

Making his third senior start after turning 50 on July 26, McKenzie is trying to become the first qualifier to win since Willie Wood in the 2012 Dick’s Sporting Goods Open.

”It would be nice, but my thoughts at the moment are just to keep playing,” McKenzie said. ”I’ve got a qualifier on Tuesday if I don’t win or don’t finish in ..

Leishman maintains the lead at BMW Championship

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) Marc Leishman got up-and-down from a tough lie behind the 18th green for one last birdie that gave him a 3-under 68 and extended his lead to five shots over Jason Day and Rickie Fowler going into the final round of the BMW Championship.

Leishman gets another chance to win a FedEx Cup playoff event and grab one of the top five seeds at the Tour Championship next week. The top seeds have the clearest path to claim the $10 million bonus.

And this opportunity is much better than two weeks ago.

Leishman shared the 54-hole lead at the TPC Boston with Justin Thomas, who surged past Leishman and held off Jordan Spieth. This time, no one could make a run at him Saturday on a warm day with a steady wind at Conway Farms.

Fowler rolled in a 25-foot eagle putt from just short of the green on the opening hole, and made only one birdie the rest of the way. He missed putts from the 6-foot range on consecutive holes on the back nine, one of them for birdie, and couldn’t m..

Facebook user declares himself a “professional mourner,” sells his tears for money

When Facebook first came into existence, it served as a great social networking site. A place to post photos, reconnect with old friends or make new ones.
It's since turned into the wild wild west, home to #FAKENEWS, your uncle's eight-paragraph-long political diatribes and a bunch of fools trying to make 1,000 straight two-foot putts and failing miserably.
But sometimes, the site is more than worth the price of admission. Like when a person literally sells their tears. No, seriously…

Sylvester Ricardo Moss, a “professional mourner,” is here to save your funeral. As if losing a loved one didn't make it a somber enough atmosphere, Moss can take it another level, and all in the wild price range of $50 to $1,000, depending on your tastes. You just cannot make this stuff up.
