Frank Swingle, 93, has more holes-in-one this year than you do
INDIANAPOLIS — The hook of this story isn’t that Frank Swingle, a 93-year-old member of Meridien Hills Golf Club here, made a hole-in-one a few weeks ago on the course’s 12th hole. The story is that Swingle is the exact kind of sharp local celebrity that you should dream of being, if for some reason you’re not already. Swingle, who’s surrounded by a crowd when I meet him in the pro shop, has been retired for 47 years, has religiously played twice a week since getting out of the Navy in 1946 and briskly strolls out to our interview on the club’s deck at a pace of a man about 30 years younger. When he made his ace, Swingle says jumped up and down on the green.
A member of Meridien Hills for 59 years (and the oldest person ever to make a hole-in-one there), Swingle not only had an ace but ended his round with a score of 106, his lowest score for 2017. (He also plays with a 97-year-old and introduces me to a member named Bob who’s six months older than he is, so apparently there is some s..
Someone actually loves the LPGA dress code. Here’s where they’re woefully misguided
The updated LPGA dress code was met with a lot of aversion. But a writer for The Lady Golfer is a fan.
It’s not even September, and Cubs fans have already completely lost it
Chicago Cubs fans are skittish creatures. They hate black cats more than a Puritan priest, cling to an irrational goat phobia like grim death, and would rather name their children Diarrhea Face than Steve. I guess that's what 108 years of torment will do to the collective human psyche.
If you thought things were going to Get Better® now that the Cubs finally broke their curse, however, you clearly don't know sports fans. In fact, success—and the fear of losing it—has only made things worse. By late May, with the Cubbies hovering around .500, some fans simply gave up on the season. To the surprise of no one but those Cracker-Jack-stress-eating basket cases, the Cubs made a second-half rally and now lead the NL Central by three and a half games. But has that soothed the Wrigley masses? Hahahaha. Let's check in and see how things are going…

Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly wants his team to be more like Jordan Spieth
Notre Dame has had some memorable football seasons in their long history, and let's just say the 2015-2016 edition wasn't one of them. The Fighting Irish went 4-8, highlighted (low-lighted) by home losses to Duke, a terrible Michigan State team and Navy. Four of their losses came by three points or less, but rarely did they show the fight to battle back in any of those close calls.
This led to a lot of changes for the Irish, particularly on the coaching staff of Brian Kelly, who you'll notice is still employed by the university. His coaching hot seat is hotter than ever, something he's well aware of. So aware in fact that he felt the need to write an odd, first-person letter via Yahoo.com, to describe/beg people to understand how different things will be in South Bend in 2017. The most interesting part comes in the very first sentence:
“When Jordan Spieth won the British Open in July, his performance showcased a lot of the ideals we’ve been stressing at Notre Dame t..

A 79-year-old’s high-speed chase with police damages six golf greens
Golf courses are occasionally the victim of reckless joyriding and vandalism, as seen this past spring at the Golf Club of Houston. Often the perpetrators are teenagers or delinquents. What happened this week in Windsor, New York, is a slightly different tale.
According to WBNG.com, a 79-year-old man was gunned doing 93 miles per hour near the Pennsylvania state line on Monday afternoon. The man, Freddie P. Maliwacki, refused to pull over when signaled by police, with a 30-minute pursuit ensuing. After hitting a spike strip, Maliwacki turned off Route 79 and into Golden Oak Golf Course. The chase ended when Maliwacki ran into an embankment, disabling his car.
On their Facebook page, Golden Oak assured no one on the property was hurt during the ordeal, but did show photos that six greens were damaged as a result of Maliwacki's actions.
Maliwacki was charged with felony counts of first-degree reckless endangerment and second-degree criminal mischief.
