ALBANS, Mo. — Rose Zhang won the Girls Junior PGA Championship by six strokes Friday with a record-tying 72-hole total of 268.
The 14-year-old Zhang, from Irvine, California, shot a 4-under 68 to match Kristen Gillman's 2014 tournament mark. Zhang opened with rounds of 69, 65 and 66 and finished at 20 under on the Country Club of St. Albans' Lewis and Clark Course.
“When I first came, I didn't have any expectations,” Zhang said. “I was just trying to play my own game and complete the four-day tournament. I think I played well under pressure and allowed myself to be in this position. … Overall, I'm just extremely humbled and blessed to be here.”
Yealimi Noh, of Concord, California, was second after a 70.

Gerina Piller stays in front at Marathon ClassicFacebookTwitterFacebook MessengerEmailcomment7:59 PM ETAssociated Press FacebookTwitterFacebook MessengerPinterestEmailprintcommentSYLVANIA, Ohio — Gerina Piller followed her opening 8-under 63 with a 68 on Friday to maintain a one-stroke lead in the Marathon Classic.
Piller had four birdies and a bogey at Highland Meadows in the second round to reach 11-under 131.

I stayed patient, not one on my front nine, and then reeled off three in a row on the back. It is difficult, but if you can just kind of plug along and hit fairways and greens and keep it simple.”
She's winless on the LPGA Tour.
“Well, it's only Friday, so I wouldn't put the cart before the horse, but to get that first win..

It wasn't devoid of drama. No, none of those issues were at the root of what was wrong with the year's second major championship. The problem is that the identity of the event, one which annually ensures that competitors never feel comfortable, was needlessly compromised. By eschewing that tendency, it felt like so many other events. It never felt like a true U.S. Open.
