The video of Alex Ovechkin almost killing his own goalie with a wrist shot is terrifying
To take shots from Alex Ovechkin in practice must be a dream come true for Ilya Samsonov, the Washington Capitals backup goalie who, like Ovi, hails from Russia. But on Tuesday, it almost turned into a nightmare for the 22-year-old netminder.

Hours before the Caps' matchup with the L.A. Kings in D.C., the team's routine morning skate nearly took a dark turn when Ovechkin came down the right wing and ripped one of his famous wrist shots on net. Unfortunately for Samsonov, the puck came directly at his head, knocking his helmet off and shaking him up. Kendall Griggs, a photographer on hand, happened to capture video, and it's downright terrifying:

Goodness gracious. To knock off a goaltender's facemask, there had to be some serious zip on that shot. Scary stuff. Samsonov headed straight to the locker room to be e..

Apparently Tony Romo dumped Jessica Simpson by email the night before her birthday, is coldest blooded dude alive
KAREN BLEIERYou probably know Tony Romo by the nice guy he plays on TV. “HERE WE GO, JIM!” he stammers excitedly before every three-and-a-half yard fullback dive he predicted before the teams even broke the huddle. Or maybe you know him from the celebrity golf circuit, where he can be found yucking it up with your favorite pros and the cast of Caddyshack 2 several times a year. He has a disarming smile and youthful enthusiasm. He's gracious with reporters and a glutton for preparation. There's nothing not to like . . . unless of course, your name is Jessica Simpson and Romo once called off your two-year relationship via email on the night before your 29th birthday.
Don't believe it? Couldn't happen? Not the Tony Romo you know and love? Well, according to this excerpt from Simpson's new book, er, Open Book, it just might be.
“[Tony] accused me of seeing John behind his back. I hadn’t cheated on
Tony at all, but I could not lie and say I hadn’t even seen him,”

How to win (and probably lose) some money betting on the 2020 Oscars
Frazer HarrisonIt has come to our attention that there is a new way to gamble your money away. Last year, the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement gave sportsbooks the all-clear to accept wagers in NJ on the Oscars and now Indiana has joined the party. Since its inception, The Loop has strived to be the one-stop-shop for betting of all shapes and sizes, thus we wouldn’t be doing our due diligence if we were to scrimp out on film's biggest night now. So buckle up (and pony up) as we break down of the best bets of the 92nd Academy Awards. Let's make some money back on those Super Bowl losses, shall we?

Grandmother watching the Super Bowl discovers Jimmy Garoppolo’s spooky 1950s doppelgänger
If you've been watching HBO's new Stephen King adaptation The Outsider, then you are probably starting to piece together the mystery (and if you aren't, this is where I spoil it for you): An “it” with the ability to replicate human likenesses has been committing heinous crimes under the guise of local do-gooders, dooming these innocent people to prison (and fates worse than that) before slinking off into the form of another doppelgänger. I bring all of this up not because I think you should watch it or anything—it's fine—but because when I saw this story about a random grandmother discovering Jimmy Garoppolo's literal 1950s clone while watching the Super Bowl after crushing out a pair of episodes last night, I knew immediately what was happening up there in the San Fran fog.
