Hockey Twitter has some absurd theories about the firing of Dallas Stars coach Jim Montgomery
Glenn JamesOn Tuesday, Dallas Stars General Manager Jim Nill announced the firing of head coach Jim Montgomery, which came as a huge shock to the hockey world for a number of reasons. Not only is Dallas is off to a decent start to the season, but Montgomery had taken the Stars to the second round of the playoffs a year ago, his first season has the head coach. All in all, not a bad year and change at the pro level for the former University of Denver head man.

But the most shocking aspect of the firing were the accusations Nill made against Montgomery, stating that it was for “unprofessional conduct,” and that the alleged conduct went against the organization's “core values.” What Nill meant specifically is unclear, which has only added to the mysterious nature of Montgomery's dismissal.

Bruins forward Brett Ritchie bungles easiest math problem he’ll ever face in his life
For the first time since early November, the Boston Bruins have hit a bit of a skid. Following a 9-0-1 10-game stretch, the B's have lost three in a row, including a pair of defeats at home, where they'd previously not lost in regulation this season. As if those two Ls weren't stunning enough, their most recent loss came on the road against the Ottawa Senators, one of the worst teams in the league. So you'll have to forgive the Bruins, particularly right winger Brett Ritchie, for feeling a bit out of sorts, both on and off the ice.
Ritchie, who is just 17 games into his Bruins career, spoke with reporters on Wednesday morning and was asked about the team's recent struggles. In typical hockey guy fashion, he answered with a cliche, but then followed up the cliche by bungling what could be the easiest math problem he'll ever have in his life:

Presidents Cup 2019: Phil Mickelson, in a full USA onesie, shares what might be the best sports-watching setup of all time
Phil Mickelson's streak of playing in 24 consecutive team events for the United States is coming to an end this week, as Phil did not qualify for the Presidents Cup matches at Royal Melbourne. Before the action starts, Mickelson shared his TV-watching setup from his house (or one of his houses, at least), and it's quite possibly the most glorious sports setup we've seen.
Five TVs, theoretically to watch all five fourballs sessions on Day 1 of action from Royal Melbourne, is incredible. To be honest, we'd bet the U.S. and International team captains are even envious of this setup—what better way to keep track of every shot hit by both sides?
You need to see the setup to believe it. And you also need to see the A-1 calf flex, all while drinking some sort of concoction out of a replica Presidents Cup? It doesn't get more Phil Mickelson than this…

JJ Culver, brother of Jarrett Culver, just dropped 100 points in a college basketball game
100 points is a basketball unicorn. An individual benchmark attained by a select few, and only once at the professional level, in 1962, by some guy named Wilt Chamberlain. Maybe you've heard of him. On Tuesday night, however, JJ Culver—brother of the sixth overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, Jarret Culver—managed to throw a leg over said unicorn with one of the most insane stat lines in college basketball history. Look upon it and weep, folks.

Insane doesn't even begin to describe it. Culver, who plays for Wayland Baptist, accomplished the feat in part by volume—jacking up a mind-numbing 62 field goals, including 33 from beyond the arc, plus 27 free throws. Still though, you have to make shots to hit triple digits, and needless to say Culver made A LOT of shots. Culver outscored THE ENTIRE opposing team, w..
