Did You Know: Only one woman has made a cut in PGA Tour history

New York Daily News Archive(Photo by Harry Warnecke/NY Daily News Archive via Getty Images)The coronavirus pandemic has hit a giant pause button on fans being able to watch golf on TV, and in some cases, even kept people off courses. But while we hunker down and hope for a speedy return to normalcy, we can also use this time as an opportunity to learn more about the game we love. Here’s our latest installment of “Did you know?”
A grand total of six women have teed it up on the PGA Tour. However, only one has ever made a cut.
That would be the great Babe Didrikson Zaharias.
A late adaptor to golf, Zaharias turned to the sport in 1935 after winning gold in track and field in the 1932 Olympics. Zaharias first entered the 1935 Cascades Open, missing the cut with an 88 and 86. Her follow-up performance was a WD at the 1937 Chicago Open, and she missed the cut at next year's Los Angeles Open with consecutive rounds in the 80s.
But Zaharias persisted and made the 36-hole cut at the 1945 ..

A bunch of the Nationals rewatched Game 7 of the World Series and roasted the Astros

Perhaps the biggest disappointment of the baseball season being pushed back is that teams have not been able to exact some revenge on the Houston Astros. Instead of watching pitchers play beanball against the Asterisks* on a daily basis, all we have are our Twitter and Instagram jokes until real baseball starts, which doesn't appear to be anytime soon.

The next best thing, however, was brought to us all on Tuesday night, when some current and former Washington Nationals got together on Zoom to rewatch their Game 7 World Series victory. Ryan Zimmerman, Max Scherzer and Juan Soto were among the attendees, but the true star of the night was Brian Dozier, who is now a member of the San Diego Padres. Around the 48-second mark of this hilarious 1 minute, 54-second clip of highlights, Dozier begins mocking the Astros trash-can banging routine as they watch one of Soto's at-ba..

Rick Pitino sells Miami mansion for $17 million, reminds everyone it’s better to be a college coach than player

Realtor.comRick Pitino has long been the only coach to lead three different men's basketball programs to an NCAA Final Four. But we're also pretty sure he just became the first coach of Iona (Yes, Iona) to ever sell his house for $17 million.

The Gaels recent big-name hire just sold his Miami mansion for that reported big price. And it's not hard to see why when you check out the photos of the palatial 12,000-square-foot property on the exclusive Indian Creek Island:

Say what you will about the guy, but he's got good taste in outdoor space—and Italian marble.
Of course, this is the latest reminder that it's better to be a college coach than a college player. Even a college coach fired in 2017 for being implicated in a..

Did Brooks Koepka just tell a story about shrinkage during his ESPN Body Issue shoot?

Sam GreenwoodBrooks Koepka has four majors in the past three years. He can hit it out of the solar system left-handed. He dates an Instagram model. On paper, Koepka might seem like a superhero (the dark, brooding anti-hero type, but still). In reality, though, he is a man just like you and I. So when he stripped down for ESPN's Body Issue in 2019—as the day wore on and the temperatures dipped and it started to rain—he wrestled with many of the same, er, concerns we all would, telling Barstool Sports' Pardon My Take podcast the following story on Sunday:
“What they don’t tell you is the makeup artist stands literally right
in front of you. Like frontal, like 10 feet away, like the entire time
the shoot is going on. It’s getting late in the day, we’re getting
kind of tired, it’s cooled down a little, and it’s like 60 degrees and
starting to sprinkle, and it’s getting cold. I haven’t complained all
day and I kind of mutter under my breath, ‘Damn, it’s cold.’ The lady

Oh hell no, Auston Matthews is out there bashing The Mighty Ducks’ “Flying V”

Mark BlinchListen, we like Auston Matthews. He's the Ovi to his generation's Crosby (McDavid). He plays for an original six, keeps his nose clean, and rocks a mean stache. He's a point machine but he isn't afraid to mix it up along the boards. And while this hasn't translated into bigger-picture NHL success, that has more to do with the Maple Leafs and whatever the hell is happening up there in Toronto than Matthews himself. With that said, we are deeply, deeply disappointed to hear the young Leafs center's latest comments, calling Gordon Bombay's legendary “Flying V” offense “the most unrealistic thing I've ever seen” in a recent interview with GQ.

Just when you think you know a guy, amirite? In Matthews defense, however, he goes on to break down the formation for the pucks noobs at GQ, explaining how the formation would result in at least four interference penalties, not to me..

Mark Calcaveccia once signed a scorecard with an expletive, then won the tournament

Al MesserschmidtUNITED STATES – MARCH 11: Mark Calcavecchia and his wife Brenda celebrate as Mark's caddie Eric Larson watches, on the 18th green during the final round of the PODS Championship at Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club in Palm Harbor, Florida on March 11, 2007. (Photo by Al Messerschmidt/Getty Images)After a particularly poor first round at Innisbrook in 2007, Mark Calcavecchia had had enough. He was so upset with his Thursday 75 that he told his wife to pack up their bags so they could make a quick exit when he eventually missed the cut on Friday afternoon.
What happened next is the stuff PGA Tour legends are made of.
Calcavecchia, known for being one of the great streaky players in golf, put his sixth putter in as many rounds into play on Friday, one he bought for $256.18 at a golf store. He shot a second-round 67, then followed with a scintillating Saturday 62 and finally a closing 70 that earned him a one-stroke victory over Heath Slocum.
