Charley Hoffman explains why he’s called “Seagull”—and it might be the funniest nickname on the PGA Tour

Cliff HawkinsThe Charley Hoffman jokes were flying on what would have been Masters Thursday, making light of the PGA Tour veteran's knack for taking the early lead at Augusta National before fading over the weekend. Hoffman himself even played along.

And it's good to see Hoffman can take it, because apparently, the four-time PGA Tour winner is usually the one dishing it out. Hence, his nickname: Seagull. Yep, Seagull.
On Tuesday, Hoffman appeared on SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio's “Gravy and the Sleeze” (two pretty great nicknames in their own right) program to explain the moniker. And it might just be the funniest nickname on tour. Check it out:

Tiger Woods’ quarantine title defense, Phil Mickelson’s Masters robe, and an LPGA Twitter battle you have to hear

Welcome to another edition of The Grind where we were pleasantly surprised by how much fun (non-)Masters weekend wound up being. I had forgotten so much from Phil Mickelson’s 2004 victory (I was just a senior in college then), and I actually didn’t recall a lot from Tiger Woods’ win last year. Kidding! I remembered everything about the momentous occasion, but it was still a treat to watch again, especially with Woods providing commentary throughout. Kudos to Jim Nantz and CBS for such a special broadcast, in particular this part, which might be the best interview Tiger has ever given:

It’s getting dusty in here again! Awesome stuff all around. That being said, let’s hope we don’t have to do this next year.
WE’RE BUYING
Tiger Woods: As mentioned, the Easter Sunday broadcast was pretty special. Based on a quarter century of rather guarded interviews, it was surprising—and great—to see Tiger get so emotional. Perhaps more surprising..

This take right here is why they pay Skip Bayless the big bucks

Spend enough time on social media during this pandemic and you'll quickly find out just how dire it has gotten in the sports content world. It's an endless string of “ON THIS DAY” posts for rather mundane occurrences, “Pick 3” challenges and “who is your quarantine house?” conundrums. It's all become quite stale in record time.
In times like these we need someone to bring something fresh to the table. Someone who isn't afraid to really shake things up, to “go there” if you will. That person is, of course, Skip Bayless, one half of FS1's utterly horrendous “Undisputed” show, which has to be hurting in the ratings department right now. How else can you explain Bayless dropping this take from the clouds on a random Tuesday morning ?

Ahh yes, the argument absolutely no one asked for. Jordan vs. LeBron is so last season. 2020 will be all about Favre vs. Rodgers.
For a guy who regularly flirts with the mo..

The best quarantine golf trick shots we’ve seen: part II

A few weeks ago, we decided to share some of the best quarantine-inspired golf trick shots we had seen up “so far.” We specified “so far” because, well, we weren't sure how this was all going to shake out and if the internet has taught us anything, it's that the trick shots will keep coming no matter what happens. And so they have. In droves in fact. Over hill and dale. Down your parents stairs. At iconic clubhouses. Everywhere in between. If it involves a ping pong ball, a pitching wedge, and a plastic cup, we've seen it, and now you're going to too, thanks to The Best Quarantine-Themed Golf Trick Shots: Part II (bigger, badder, trickier!). Scroll down and enjoy.

Did you know: There have been five holes-in-one on par 5s (yes, par 5s!)

Archive PhotosAdam Sandler plays golf in a scene from the film 'Happy Gilmore', 1996. (Photo by Universal/Getty Images)The Coronavirus pandemic has hit a giant pause button on fans being able to watch golf on TV, and in some cases, even kept people off courses. But while we hunker down and hope for a speedy return to normalcy, we can also use this time as an opportunity to learn more about the game we love. Here’s our latest installment of “Did you know?”
A hole in one might be the most sought-after accomplishment in golf. The unexpectedness. The out-of-nowhere jolt golfers feel when the ball finds the cup. The raucous celebrations that follow. There have even been aces made on par 4s, including on the PGA Tour (Andrew Magee, anyone?). But has there ever been a hole in one on a par 5?
Believe it or not, yes.
According to liveabout.com, it has occurred five times, with three of them coming on sever doglegs or horseshoe-shaped holes where the listed yardage could be mitigated b..
