Shin-Soo Choo—who just gave $1,000 to all 190 Texas Rangers minor leaguers—is your human of the day
Christian PetersenIt's hard times out there right now. Something like 6.6 million Americans have filed for unemployment due to the coronavirus. And while it may seem trivial to say, no industry has been hit harder than the industry of sports. No, we're not talking about the Tigers and Toms of the world. They will be fine. MORE than fine. But it's the service workers, the arena security guards, and, of course, the lowest guys on the totem pole—the minor leaguers—who will be hurting the most as the COVID-19 pandemic stretches on.
Thankfully, while the aforementioned Tom's settle down in their new mega mansions in income-tax-free states, Texas Rangers outfielder Shin-Soo Choo is, er, stepping to the plate, pledging to pay all 190 minor leaguers currently in the Texas Rangers system $1,000 . . . each.

Now, $1,000 may not seem like much, but in times like these, it can be a couple weeks worth of groceries or a mon..
Patrick Ewing and a cheerleader once pulled off an epic April Fools’ prank on a New York sportswriter
Brian DrakeUnderstandably, people weren't as into April Fools' Day this year considering the past month feels like a gigantic and tragic practical joke gone wrong. But in a world looking for levity anywhere, an old tale from a former New York sportswriter involving Patrick Ewing and a cheerleader did the trick.

Then with the New York Times—and when the Knicks were actually still good (sigh)—Wise was approached by a Cleveland cheerleader before a Cavs-Knicks game on April 1, 1997 (Wise got the date wrong in his original tweet, something we can't blame him for after such a traumatizing experience). And well, we'll let him take it from there:

Well played, Patrick. And everyone else involved, including this mysterious cheerleader. Wise provided more details on the prank and then turned to help from Twitter in tracking her down. A year aft..

Did you know: The creator of the Stableford scoring system was a darn good stick himself
The Coronavirus pandemic has hit a giant pause button on fans being able to watch golf on TV, and in some cases, even kept people off courses. But while we hunker down and hope for a speedy return to normalcy, we can also use this time as an opportunity to learn more about the game we love. Here’s our latest installment of “Did you know?”
Whether you play in a Thursday Night men’s league or one of the few professional tournaments that utilize his scoring system, you’re probably a fan of Dr. Frank Stableford. That’s because if you don’t know the name, you probably do know his scoring system—the one that allows you to stink on a few holes and do really well on a few holes and be all the better for it.
The Stableford Scoring System is based on earning points on each hole, rather than worrying about strokes taken. It was developed by Stableford in 1898 but wasn’t used in competition until more than three decades later at Wallasey Golf Club in England. The idea being not to allow one or two..
This dark version of the Masters theme song will make you even sadder about next week
Golf fans didn't need another reminder that the 2020 Masters has been postponed. In fact, it's possible many would have forgotten about it next week when the tournament was to be played because being stuck at home has made keeping track of the days difficult. Heck, I only know we're into a new month because of all the March 1/April 1 memes floating around. Seriously, everyone—and I mean everyone—thanks for those. Let's do another round on May 1.

That being said, one composer's dark twist on the Masters Theme song is bound to bum people out all over again. That's because John Houston has taken Dave Loggins' classic “Augusta” and put it in a minor key, which is music-speak for made it sound sad. Have a listen. If you can stomach it.
Nice job, John, but c'mon, man! We need uplifting tunes now more than ever! Like the normal version of the Masters theme song. Or even better, th..
