Golf club apologizes for calling cops on black women members

YORK, Pa. (AP) A golf club in Pennsylvania has apologized for calling police on a group of black women after the co-owner and his father said they were playing too slowly and refused requests to leave the course.

”I felt we were discriminated against,” one of the women, Myneca Ojo, told the York Daily Record. ”It was a horrific experience.”

Sandra Thompson and four friends met up Saturday to play a round of golf at the Grandview Golf Club, where they are all members, she told the newspaper.

At the second hole, a white man whose son co-owns the club came up to them twice to complain that they weren’t keeping up with the pace of play. Thompson, an attorney and the head of the York chapter of the NAACP, told the newspaper it was untrue.

On the same hole, another member of the group, Sandra Harrison, said she spoke with a Grandview golf pro, who said they were fine since they were keeping pace with the group ahead of them.

Average hacker humbly withdraws himself from Ryder Cup consideration

Aurelien Meunier(Photo by Aurelien Meunier/Getty Images)Life ain't easy for European Ryder Cup captain Thomas Bjorn. The 47-year-old is tasked with righting his team's ship after a blowout loss at Hazeltine in 2016. There's also the inherent pressures of the position, not only due to the exhibition's significance in that part of the globe but the stress in trying to preserve the Europeans' home winning streak (their last defeat on union soil came in 1993). And though Bjorn is blessed with abundant talent, the vast amount of roster options bring their own scrutiny regarding his captain's picks.
Which makes the sacrifice of one Stephen Atkinson all the more admirable.
If you've never heard of Atkinson, well, join the crowd. He appears to be an average bloke who loves the game, evidenced in helming the Babalou Golf Society. Alas, his responsibility to his club, along with the decisive revelation that he's not good at golf, has led Atkinson to humbly..

As hockey loses some of its edge, the original Hanson Brothers are holding on one fist at a time

(Photo by Steve Babineau/NHLI via Getty Images)There aren't as many fights in the Stanley Cup Playoffs as there was in the past. Fighting has declined significantly in hockey since the days when teams often would send enforcers or tough guys onto the ice. Heck, in 1987, the Flyers and Canadiens got in a 15-minute brawl before their playoff Game 6 even started.
Such frequent fighting was well displayed in the classic 1977 comedy, Slap Shot,’ perhaps the best and most memorable hockey movie ever made (Miracle about the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team is the only challenger). Slap Shot starred Paul Newman as the Charlestown Chiefs player/coach who often encouraged fighting. And the team’s three Hanson brothers—Steve, Jeff and Jack, who all wore dark-rimmed glasses and had long hair—brawled co..
