David Copperfield was forced to explain a famous magic trick in court because apparently we have to know everything now

On its face, yes, David Copperfield being forced to hand over the dark secrets of a decades-old magic trick in a courtroom setting sucks. Magic is fun! Magic is one of the only reliable express lanes back to your sweet-eyed childhood, back to belief, back to wonders and delight and the inability to believe what your senses are showing you. I watched every David Copperfield special NBC produced in the ‘80s, and I watched my grandfather make four jacks mystically travel to the top of the deck, and I smiled every last time. I love Penn and Teller, but not for a minute did I want to watch them pull the curtain back, never wanted to give over one lousy ratings point to that jackass Magician Who Explains Everything on Fox. There’s so little to blow us away in our daily travels — why would I want some jag on Garbage Network to blow holes in my beliefs? I choose to believe the show, the wonder. It’s why I liked this guy so much.
But then you read what really happened in Copperfield’s trick, an..

The best new superhero is not a superhero…and he’s got a real-life, dad-joke certified Twitter account

The latest Avengers: How The Hell We Gonna Get Everyone Screen Time? comes out in a week, one of the few remaining films in the industry that feels like an “event.” Which could explain why the Deadpool sequel is getting somewhat lost in the shadows. Thanks to a breakthrough viral marketing campaign and a funny, sharp, keenly self-aware presentation, it was a movie that showed a superhero story didn't have to choose the well-worn avenues of cheesy or overtly dark. Better yet, it was finally the star-making vehicle Hollywood has been waiting for from Ryan Reynolds.
But while Reynolds is returning for Round 2, the breakout star, at least from the final Deadpool 2 trailer, is…Peter.
Actually, it's comedian Rob Delaney, who plays Peter, an average Joe who learns that Deadpool is putting together a super-duper team and wants to join.
Better yet, Reynolds confirmed that Peter has his own Twitter account…

Anthony Davis becomes latest to embarrass Jusuf Nurkic, who has had a bad month

Sean GardnerIf LeBron James murdered Jusuf Nurkic last month, then Anthony Davis buried him in the ground and had his funeral, and then danced on his grave Thursday night. Sorry if this got dark.
In game three of the first round series between the New Orleans Pelicans and Portland Trail Blazers, New Orleans continued its absolute dismantling of Portland, the Western Conference's supposed 3-seed that's not even putting up a fight. With the game still somewhat within reach at the Smoothie King Center, Pelicans guard Ian Clark launched a three from the corner that bricked. Nurkic thought he had an easy rebound until Davis came barreling down the lane to utterly embarrass him, and it somehow got worse afterwards. Check out the full play:

Park fires 68 for 1-shot lead as LPGA Tour returns to LA

LOS ANGELES (AP) Inbee Park’s flirtation with retirement is in the rear-view mirror.

Backed by a large contingent of South Korean fans, Park shot a 5-under 66 for a one-shot lead Thursday in the opening round of the HUGEL-JTBC LA Open in the LPGA Tour’s return to Los Angeles after a 13-year absence.

Showers ended shortly before Park’s threesome, including second-ranked Lexi Thompson, teed off at windy Wilshire Country Club just south of Hollywood.

Using a new putter, Park birdied four consecutive holes on the back nine before a bogey on the par-4 17th. She quickly recovered and rolled in birdie putts on the second and fifth holes to finish off her round.

”I never played a tournament outside Korea having this much Korean supporters out,” Park said. ”I almost feel like I’m playing back home. It’s almost like a little Korea.”

That applies to the food, too, with nearby Koreatown’s restaurants beckoning.

”Too many,” Park said.

Grayson Murray handles the wind and leads Texas Open

SAN ANTONIO (AP) Grayson Murray fixed a flaw in his swing and hit the ball well enough that blustery conditions weren’t an issue for him Thursday in the Valero Texas Open.

Coming off a missed cut at Hilton Head last week, Murray made seven birdies for a 5-under 67 and a one-shot lead. His only mistake was a double bogey from a greenside bunker on the par-3 seventh hole.

”Just the fact I did give myself enough opportunities today for birdie, it took a lot of pressure off,” Murray said.

Of the five players at 68, only Chesson Hadley played in the morning side of the draw, and he called it among his best rounds of the year because of gusts. The wind died in the afternoon and scoring improved slightly on the AT&T Oaks Course at the TPC San Antonio. Keegan Bradley, Ryan Moore, Billy Horschel and Matt Atkins each posted 68. Horschel and Moore played bogey-free.

”Struck the ball really well, something that we’ve been working hard on,” Horschel said. ”Could hav..

RIDGEDALE, Mo. (AP) Jeff Maggert and Jesper Parnevik shot an 8-under 63 in better-ball play Thursday to take the first-round lead in the PGA Tour Champions’ chilly Bass Pro Shops Legends of Golf.

”It was very relaxing for me because I felt like terrible,” Parnevik said. ”I was so stiff this morning. It was freezing cold. I thought if I can just try to make some pars in case he ever makes a bogey, but I didn’t even have to do that.”

Playing together for the first time in the team event, Maggert and Parnevik eagled the par-5 eighth and had six birdies in the cool and breezy conditions on Big Cedar Lodge’s Buffalo Ridge course.

”We play well together,” Maggert said. ”We both contributed a lot. Jesper had a lot of birdies and an eagle on our final nine. It was so cold this morning, I just was going to come out and just try to hit fairways and greens. Really I wasn’t thinking about making birdies, I was just trying to play steady and give myself an opportunit..
