Plowman said the bus careened off the road and spun around one and a half times before skidding on its side a good distance. He said the bus was filling up with smoke as he climbed through a window above his head.

Plowman said he felt badly for other injured passengers as well as for Masters ticketholders stuck on Interstate 20 as it was shut down after the crash. He said: ”It’s not the way we planned the day.”

Woods back at Masters, playing with early leader Leishman

AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) Tiger Woods gave galleries at Augusta National something to cheer for in his first round at the Masters in three years.

Playing partner Marc Leishman provided even more highlights.

Leishman birdied three of his first seven holes and was 3 under at the turn while playing alongside the main attraction at the first major of 2018.

Article continues below …

He took advantage of solid tee shots and even better approach shots while making consecutive birdies at the second and third holes. Leishman’s wedge shot at the par-5 second bounced onto the back fringe and spun back to within a few feet of the flag.

He nearly drove the green at the par-4 third and chipped past the hole. But he drained a sweeping, super-fast, downhill putt for another birdie. His approach shot at No. 7 checked up, spun left and landed a few feet away for another short birdie.

Even when Leishman wasn’t getting close for birdies, he was doing enough to save par. He came up just a few revolutions s..

Woods back at Masters, playing with early leader Leishman

AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) No other course makes him more comfortable. Even more familiar than a sharp short game was his name atop the leaderboard at the Masters.

Jordan Spieth appears to be back on his game.

Tiger Woods?

Article continues below …

He has some catching up to do.

Spieth took only 10 putts on the back nine Thursday at Augusta National, including five straight birdies. The last one was from tap-in range after another superb pitch, from the left gallery to escape with bogey for a 6-under 66 and a two-shot lead over Matt Kuchar and Tony Finau.

It was the eighth time in his last 13 rounds at the Masters that Spieth ended a round with the lead.

”I know as well as anybody that anything can happen at Augusta National,” Spieth said, a vague reference to the lead he lost on the back nine in 2016 that kept him from winning consecutive green jackets. ”It’s about riding momentum from last week and this round.”

Woods, the main attraction in his first time back to the Masters since 2..

Here’s the new Nike ad that will get you even more fired up about Tiger Woods’ comeback

Nike has created as many great Tiger Woods ads as Tiger Woods has won trophies during his illustrious career. Just to name a few, there was “Hello, World,” the juggling wedge, and that one narrated by his father, Earl, about his mental toughness that synced up perfectly with Tiger draining his famed putt at Torrey Pines to send the 2008 U.S. Open into a playoff. I'm getting chills just thinking about that. . .
Anyway, not surprisingly, Nike has timed its latest commercial work of art, “Welcome Back,” to come out this week as Woods makes his return to the Masters. This one spans his entire career and literally takes a break before resuming with his latest comeback. Sit back and enjoy:
And enjoy watching Woods drain his first Masters birdie in 1,089 days:

Bus overturns on way to Masters tournament, several hurt

A charter bus headed to the Masters golf tournament overturned on a Georgia interstate Thursday, injuring 15 people and snarling traffic as scores of fans made the pilgrimage to one of the sport’s premier events. The bus driver was charged with driving under the influence.

The bus carrying 18 passengers crashed at about 8:45 a.m. Thursday, just as fans were driving in for the tournament’s first round. Sgt. Chris Wright of the Georgia State Patrol said the driver ran off the right side, then overcorrected and caused the bus to overturn in the median. Some passengers suffered broken bones and head injuries, Wright said, but none were life-threatening.

The bus driver, 61-year-old Steven F. Hoppenbrouwer of Gwinnett County, Georgia, was charged with DUI and failure to maintain lane. Wright said investigators believe Hoppenbrouwer had been using drugs, not alcohol. He said passengers told authorities the bus had drifted off the edge of the roadway twice before it veered a third time and c..

Pissed-off Predators fan overnights dead catfish to NHL HQ over blown call

Bruce BennettPreds fans are pissed. On Tuesday night, Flip Forsberg scored the apparent game-tying goal against the Florida Panthers with 0.6 seconds remaining. On first, second, and third viewings it looked like a clean goal, but the NHL's review crack squad decided to overthink it anyway, eventually disallowing the late equalizer due to goaltender interference. Here's what they saw:
Preds fans—some of the craziest in the biz, it should be said—were obviously less than pleased, especially with their team currently battling for the NHL's number one seed heading into the playoffs. One particularly jilted fan took things to black belt revenge levels, purchasing, packing, and overnighting a dead catfish to NHL headquarters in Toronto, nearly 800 miles north.

The Latest: Woods tees off at Masters for 1st time since ’15

AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) The Latest on the first round of the Masters on Thursday (all times local):

7:25 p.m.

Maybe Jordan Spieth should switch gloves more often.

Article continues below …

During the opening round of the Masters, Spieth changed gloves on the 13th fairway because he was struggling to keep a grip on the club. Suddenly, he ripped off five straight birdies to take control at Augusta National.

Spieth says he ”started pin seeking” after making the switch, going on to shoot a 6-under 66 that gives him a two-shot lead over Tony Finau and Matt Kuchar.

Spieth stumbled a bit at the 18th hole, where an errant tee shot led to a bogey. But even there, he pulled off a brilliant chip from the edge of the patrons that left him with a tap-in for his final stroke of the day.

Spieth called it a ”fantastic shot” and says he ”couldn’t get it any closer with a bucket of balls.”

As good as he’s feeling, Spieth isn’t getting ahead of himself. Two years ago, he went to the back nine with a ..

AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) The Latest on the first round of the Masters on Thursday (all times local):

11:55 a.m.

Tiger Woods has his first birdie at the Masters in nearly three years.

Article continues below …

Woods almost drove the green at the par-4 No. 3, pitched to about 10 feet and made the putt to set off a huge ”Tiger Roar” at Augusta National.

It was Woods’ first competitive birdie at the famed course since April 12, 2015, at No. 15 in the final round of the Masters. He finished tied for 17th.

Woods gave the stroke back on the next hole when his tee shot found a greenside bunker. He chipped out and missed a 20-footer for par.

Playing partner Marc Leishman was leading the event at 2 under.

10:25 a.m.

Tony Finau says he is ”optimistic” after a ”crazy day” at the Masters.

Finau dislocated his left ankle celebrating a hole-in-one during the Par-3 Tournament on Wednesday and then popped it back into place.

X-rays were negative. Finau was scheduled for more tests Thursday bef..
