Video: How Jim Nantz comes up with his best lines

It can't be a Masters without Jim Nantz, and you can't have a full Jim Nantz experience without some clever, syrupy plays on words.
From “The Bear has come out of hibernation!” (Nantz's first Masters describing Jack Nicklaus in 1986) to “As grand as it gets!” (Nantz on Tiger Woods completing the “Tiger Slam” in 2001), one has to wonder if the CBS veteran gives some of his best lines a dry run before putting them into play.
And this extends beyond golf. Nantz's other regular signature event is the NCAA Basketball Championship, where he at least knows only one of two teams can win. How does he whittle down his list of potential calls? The folks at BattingStanceGuy.com claim to have secured exclusive footage* of Nantz testing out material before the 2011 title game between Butler and Connecticut.
*(Not really. This appears to be completely farcical, but it's still very funny).

This Icelandic buzzer-beater and ensuing broadcast call are the new kings of March Madness

Yes, the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament was a wild ride. But the best March Madness moment belongs to Iceland.
The following video comes from a playoff battle in the Men's Premier League, where former Drexel star Kari Jonsson heaved up this three-quarter court Hail Mary as time expired. Given the title of this post, you can guess what happens next:

According to Wikitionary, “NEI” is Icelandic for “NO,” which, given Jonsson's shot, makes sense. Not exactly “Rise and fire,” but we'll take it.
In a related note, March Madness hasn't been the same since Gus Johnson left. If you're reading this CBS, get this Icelandic announcer on the weekend broadcast.

John Kruk slowly building cheesesteak empire like the Philly legend that he is

Rich SchultzAs painful as this is to say, it's good to be a Philadelphia sports fan right now. The Eagles finally won a Super Bowl, the Flyers and the Sixers appear to be playoff-bound and the Phillies might just turn the corner with new insane manager Gabe Kapler and his young core of players. If you thought things weren't going good enough, Phillies legend John Kruk is slowly building a cheesesteak empire. What can't the City of Brotherly Love do at this point?
OK, so the empire is actually being built in Florida, but the point remains. Kruk's career will always be remembered for his time at a member of the Phillies, where he made three consecutive All-Star teams, hit 62 homers and had 390 RBIs. His first restaurant, Kruk's Philly Steaks, opened in Naples, and because of its success, Kruk opened another in Fort Myers and is now set to open four more in Tampa, Sarasota, University Park and another in Fort Myers, according to NBC Sports Philadelphia. It's ..

Gareth Bale’s backyard features three iconic golf holes, puts your lawn to shame

Sorry, Jim Nantz and Mark Wahlberg. Gareth Bale's backyard puts your golf-centric lawns to shame.
In the fall we let you know the Real Madrid star had completed construction on a replica of TPC Sawgrass' Island Green at his Wales estate. According to the Sun, Bale has revealed two more holes, producing models of Augusta National's Golden Bell and Royal Troon's Postage Stamp.
FacebookPinterestAccording to South West Greens Construction, which built this hacker's paradise for Bale, the design took six months to build and was actually “finished” two years ago. However, they let the course mature since its completion before revealing it to the public.
If I'm a Real Madrid fan, I'd be petrified at this sight. With this in his backyard, there's a good chance Bale retires and never leaves his property again.

The holy war between kangaroos and golf pins rages on

Kangaroos and golf don't mix. Never have. Never will. The national symbol of Australia has long waged a holy war on the nation's most prominent export, and this latest case is perhaps the most graphic yet. Viewer discretion is advised:
https://twitter.com/9NewsAUS/status/976375359376519168
So yeah, obviously we're kidding. Not only is there no conscious power struggle between marsupials and an inanimate game, but this video is also pretty damn adorable. We're sure some Aussie version of Carl Spackler was soon on hand to break up the fun, but according to bystander and Noosa Golf Course member Bettina Hammant, it was all pretty innocent, with the little guy simply hopping over to the flag during her round to do his thing.
Hammant, who is slightly more qualified in the kangaroo department than us on the account of being Australia and all, said she had never seen a Rory McIlroo (sorry, couldn't resist) behave so strangely, attributing the young male's behavio..

Tiger Woods ranks first on this otherwise highly-flawed ESPN ranking of dominant athletes

Sam Greenwood/Getty ImageTiger Woods is regarded as one of the most dominant athletes in sports history. And now we have math to back it up.
In honor of ESPN the Magazine's 20th anniversary, the Worldwide Leader produced the Dominance Rankings, labeled as “the most formidable, awe-inspiring and downright dominant athletes of the past two decades.” Using, in its estimation, a foolproof methodology, the list is topped by the 42-year-old Woods.
With good reason: in a 35-major run from the 1999 PGA Championship to the 2008 U.S. Open, Woods won 13 titles; no other golfer won more than three in that span. Other items boosting Tiger's case: 64 wins and nine Player of the Year honors in an 11-year period, and his ability to close, capturing 43 out of 45 tournaments when he entered the final round in the lead.
Woods wasn't the only golfer on the list. LPGA's Annika Sorenstam came in sixth thanks to 43 wins in a five-year stretch, along with logging the top-three lowest seaso..
