Martin Perez was injured by a bull. So he killed and ate it

Rick Yeatts(Photo by Rick Yeatts/Getty Images)There are a litany of weird-ass baseball injuries. Ken Griffey Jr. missed time when his protective cup slipped and pinched a testicle. Marty Cordova was sidelined after burning his face on a tanning bed. Glenallen Hill crashed into a glass table after falling out of bed from a nightmare. Martin Perez's story, however, takes the cake.
In December Perez, a pitcher for the Texas Rangers, suffered a freak injury after a bull came charging at him on a ranch in Venezuela, falling and injuring his non-throwing elbow. However, although initially diagnosed as a four-to-five month rehabilitation, Perez is on track to start the season in the majors. Better yet, Perez was able to enact his justice. Might want to close your eyes, PETA.
“I killed him and I ate him,” Perez told reporters over the weekend. “It was good meat. No more bull.”
The real loser in this, aside from the deceased calf, is the first opposing batter that faces Perez. If the man h..

Jordan Clarkson believes dinosaurs were once pets for a giant race of humans

Jason Miller”OK this is going to get a little bit crazy. I’m gonna take y’all a little left on this.” When Cleveland Cavaliers guard Jordan Clarkson slapped this disclaimer on the latest and potentially greatest blast of NBA pseudoscience during his Road Trippin' podcast appearance on Monday, there was no question that what came next was going to be a little, umm, out there. What we didn't know until Clarkson was pressed on his dinosaur-related beliefs, however, is that it would be swirling around the Oort Cloud at the edge of interstellar space 93 million miles from Richard Jefferson and Channing Frye's little rolling recording studio. Brace yourselves, humble patrons of logic and science. This is a doozy.
CLARKSON: I don’t believe in dinosaurs either. Well, actually I do. I
believe that, OK this is going to get a little bit crazy. I’m gonna
take y’all a little left on this. Y’all know how we got dogs and
stuff, right? So I think there was bigger people on the world bef..

Column: Winning makes McIlroy as good as he already was

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Rory McIlroy had his first Arnold Palmer moment before the tournament even started.

He had just finished his pro-am round at Bay Hill and was about to walk out of the tunnel leading from the 18th green when a man asked him for a picture. McIlroy obliged, because he usually does. But this was different.

The man handed him a black bolero hat and told McIlroy it was from his squadron when he served in Vietnam. He didn’t want a selfie with McIlroy. He wanted a picture of McIlroy wearing the hat that meant so much to him. The hat looked awkward on him with golfing attire, but McIlroy didn’t mind.

Article continues below …

It’s all about giving the fans what they want.

Then the 28-year-old from Northern Ireland gave them something even better with what McIlroy described as a ”perfect round of golf,” certainly the closing stretch. He birdied five of the last six holes, capping it off with a 25-foot putt on the 18th hole to win the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

LeBron James once GAINED seven pounds during a playoff game, says new urban legend

Jonathan DanielIt's a widely cited, loosely corroborated fact that NASCAR drives can lose up to ten pounds of water weight during a single race. Accurate or not, this anecdote raises some very real questions about A. why NASCAR races are held in places like Florida in July and B. how much water these guys are freaking drinking, but it has nothing on this little gem from ESPN's senior LeBron correspondent Brian Windhorst:
LeBron James once gained seven pounds during an Eastern Conference Finals game.
To be honest we're not sure we believe it either. LeBron is a made-in-a-lab level physical freak (term of endearment). He's Kobe Bryant trapped in Lawrence Taylor's body and we'd literally rather get hit by an Amtrak on the fastbreak than him. That said, gaining seven pounds during a real live NBA game and with a real live NBA Finals berth on the line seems unbelievable even by LeBron's routinely unbelievable standard. According to Windhorst, however, who ..

Four blasts have hit Austin in less than three weeks, killing two people and wounding four others.

Police had closed the neighborhood to comb through evidence, and were still searching for clues. Rewards totaling $115,000 are being offered for information leading to an arrest in the case.

Sonic to terrorize taste buds this summer with pickle juice slushie

Nothing says summer like cold beer, convertibles, sunburns, Don Henley, watching your team slump out of Wild Card contention, and, according to the mad scientists at Sonic at least, pickle juice slushies. No that is not a typo nor an elaborate internet hoax—it is an honest-to-goodness menu item at an actual fast food chain that, as of this morning at least, has yet to be shut down for crimes against humanity. If you think that's bad, here's what it looks like…
FacebookPinterestand if you think things can't get any worse, here's what it tastes like (via Food & Wine):
Sweet and tangy, the bright brine compensates for the over-savoriness you might have been worried about. You won’t understand why, but you’ll keep going back for more sips, likely until it’s all gone. Our only gripe is that the slush is a bit too sweet, as if overcorrecting for the acidity.
And so we arrive at the most baffling part of this already mind-frying story: A publication that will tell you wh..

The Milwaukee Brewers re-enacted “The Sandlot” and it’s glorious

The Milwaukee Brewers are predicted to finish second in the NL Central this season. But thanks to this viral gem, the Brew Crew just hung a pennant in the hearts of baseball fans across the globe.
“The Sandlot” celebrates its 25th anniversary this spring, and in honor of the coming-of-age film, the Brewers recreated the famous scene where Hamilton “Ham” Porter jacks one over the fence, much to the dismay of his teammates.

In case you needed a reminder of the original for comparison:
Save for Stephen Vogt batting from the wrong side of the plate (an issue that plagued Ray Liotta's Joe Jackson in “Field of Dreams”), or that said characters are grown-ass men, it's pretty damn impressive. For the record, “Rookie of the Year” is also celebrating its 25th anniversary this summer, although we don't recommend any players breaking their arm in pursuit of a 99-mph heater.

Jordan Peele is not Jordan Poole but appreciates your kind words anyway

FREDERIC J. BROWN(Photo credit should read FREDERIC J. BROWN/AFP/Getty Images)Jordan Peele has transformed from comedian to sketch artist to author of one of the more thoughtful and reflective allegories about slavery and race relations in cinematic history. As versatile as his skills are, however, he has not added “sharpshooter” to that list. Although he's more than happy to take credit for such non-existent savvy.
At least, that was the message from Peele to his Twitter followers on Sunday. Which may have something to do with this:
https://twitter.com/marchmadness/status/975224909239472128
That would be Jordan Poole, a freshman for the Michigan Wolverines, March Madness hero and one who is decidedly not Peele. It appears some well-meaning Tweeps got snarled in stylistic literary, sending their compliments to Peele instead of Poole.

Hey, an indirect, single shoutout from one of culture's most esteemed auteurs is just ..
