Garcia fires 66 to take clubhouse lead at Singapore Open

SINGAPORE (AP) Sergio Garcia kicked off his 2018 season in style on Thursday, shooting a 5-under 66 to take the early clubhouse lead in the first round of the Singapore Open.

Playing his first tournament of the new year, the reigning Masters champion rebounded after making an early bogey to collect four birdies and an eagle to jump straight to the top of the leaderboard.

The 38-year-old dropped his only shot of the day on the par-4 15th, his 6th hole after he teed off from the back-9, when he missed the fairway and was unable to make par. But he made amends when he birdied the par-3 17th then eagled the par-5 18th to go out in 33 at the Sentosa Golf Club.

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) With lingering questions about the status of Colonial’s title sponsorship, the PGA Tour says the historic tournament will be played as scheduled in May.

The PGA Tour said in a statement Wednesday that it is working closely with Colonial Country Club.

Dean and Deluca notified the PGA Tour and Colonial late last year that it may be unable to meet its financial obligations to remain title sponsor for the tournament, according to a letter from Colonial Country Club president Rob Doby to its members that was obtained by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Reiter skipping classes, getting schooled at CareerBuilder (Jan 17, 2018)

LA QUINTA, Calif. (AP) Charlie Reiter is skipping classes at Palm Desert High to play in the CareerBuilder Challenge. He’s still getting schooled, too, by the likes of Jon Rahm.

The 18-year-old Reiter, the first amateur to receive a sponsor exemption in tournament history, recently hooked up with Rahm at nearby Big Horn.

”It was definitely eye-opening,” Reiter said. ”We played like 12 holes together and I think he had, maybe, a one-putt almost every single hole. He made like six straight birdies. It just showed me how good you have to be in certain areas of your game to be on the tour and be a top-level golfer.”

Rahm, at No. 3 in the world, is the top-ranked player in the event that starts Thursday. He chuckled recalling Reiter’s power off the tee.

”He hits it far and, when I say far, I mean really far, like he can easily get it past me,” Rahm said.

Rahm was second two weeks ago at Kapalua in his first start since winning the European Tour’s seaso..

Rob Gronkowski unknowingly creates perfect Gronk catchphrase during press conference

Rob Gronkowski is the gift that keeps on giving. When he's not Gronk-smashing balls into the turf after a big touchdown, he's providing thoughtful public service announcements in the hopes that a bunch of idiots will stop consuming laundry detergent. He's truly a Gronk of all trades.
On Wednesday Gronk was Gronking again when he met with the media ahead of New England's AFC Championship matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars. A reporter asked the Patriots tight end why Gillette Stadium is such a tough place to play, and, like any Gronk answer, it took him a second or two to collect his thoughts. But when he finally did, he delivered, unknowingly creating the most Gronk catchphrase ever when describing the crowd during last year's playoffs, which he sadly missed due to injury:

Did Gronk mean “going berserk”? Did he pop in a tide pod before the press conference, or possibly a handful of Bazooka gum so it was ..
