Paisley and Saddier hold big lead at South African Open
JOHANNESBURG (AP) Chris Paisley and Adrien Saddier opened up a big lead after two rounds of the South African Open on Friday as they moved to 13 under par and four shots clear of their nearest challengers.
England’s Paisley hit a 7-under 65 to move up from second overnight. France’s Saddier had the round of the day at Glendower Golf Club in Johannesburg, a blistering, course record-equaling 63 with an eagle, seven birdies and no bogeys.
Both Paisley and Saddier are seeking a maiden European Tour title.

Home player Jacques Kruyswijk is alone in second on 9 under, with a group of four players another shot behind him on 8 under and in a tie for fourth.
That group contains overnight leaders Branden Grace and Chase Koepka, Zimbabwe’s Scott Vincent, and Retief Goosen, the two-time U.S. Open champion who hasn’t won a professional tournament since 2009.
The 48-year-old Goosen began this week with a promising 69 and then carded six birdies and an eagle for..
And I for one welcome our new savior-whale overlords
Here’s some fantastic news from the world of sentient and sympathetic marine mammals: According to a story that appeared this week in National Geographic, a diver off the coast of Rarotonga — part of the Cook Islands in the Pacific — was pushed away from a nearby tiger shark by a huge and helpful humpback whale, which used its fin to gently push her to safety. More happily, this entire event was all caught on camera. (Well, not entirely happily, because tiger shark attacks do not usually appear near the word “happily,” but it’s lovely to have the footage.)
The diver is biologist Nan Hauser, who is also the president and director for the Center for Cetacean Research and Conservation. The POV video shows her swimming with a 25-ton humpback whale, which is one of those things that isn’t dangerous and will never be dangerous yet still strikes me as EXCEEDINGLY DANGEROUS, because of the part where she was swimming with a 25-ton sea beast, jeez look at the size of this thing. It could be cov..
Clemson-N.C. State featured the craziest — and most crushing — finish of the college basketball season
We're two months away from March Madness, but the crazy finish in Thursday night's Clemson-N.C. State game will be tough to top. The Wolfpack were poised for an upset of the 19th-ranked Tigers — and it looked like it would come easily when the home team took a 12-point lead with under 90 seconds to play. But then, college basketball happened.
RELATED: Why the Alabama-Georgia ending seemed so familiar
There were made three-pointers, missed free throws, dumb fouls, and even dumber turnovers. Clemson climbed back into the game. And the Tigers had a glorious chance to force overtime when Gabe DeVoe got fouled on a potential game-tying three with .2 seconds remaining. But after making his first two attempts, Wolfpack coach Kevin Keatts called a timeout to ice him. And it worked. Ouch. Watch the wild ending between these two ACC foes:

This video of Tobias Harris and Boban Marjanovic dancing is delightful
The Detroit Pistons have been one of the NBA's pleasant surprises with a 22-18 record that has them eying a playoff spot as we hit the season's midway mark. Some solid team chemistry, in particular between Tobias Harris and Boban Marjanovic, hasn't hurt.

On Thursday, Harris, Detroit's leading scorer, posted a video of the two, who he dubbed “The Bobi & Tobi Show,” dancing to the song “Chicken Noodle Soup.” And it's delightful. Check it out:

Admittedly, I would probably like any dance video to this particular song since chicken noodle soup with a soda on the side is my go-to lunch. But seeing two dudes getting so into it, especially one who happens to have an EIGHT-FOOT wingspan, is pretty special. Let's keep the “Bobi & Tobi Show” episodes coming.

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) Asia bucked the odds and led defending champion Europe 3 1/2 to 2 1/2 after the opening day of the EurAsia Cup on Friday.
With Asia holding the lead on a day of constant drizzle, Li Haotong earned the biggest cheer for the men in red after he birdied the final hole of the final fourball match for he and Nicholas Fung to force a draw against Europe’s Bernd Wiesberger and Rafa Cabrera Bello.
Asia seeks its first win in the third EurAsia Cup.

”I don’t want to ever sound cocky with a team like Europe, and I’m not going to get cocky, but it’s a great start,” Asia captain Arjun Atwal said.
”I noticed that every single pairing was comfortable with each other. That was my main goal this week, to just go out there and have fun.”
Asia trailed heavily on the first day of the previous competitions in 2014 and 2016, and lost the first match at Glenmarie Golf and Country Club when Tommy Fleetwood and Paul Casey beat Kiradech Aphibarn..

Spieth ends up 6 shots behind for a different reason at Sony
HONOLULU (AP) Jordan Spieth has played good golf in the opening round of the Sony Open each of the last two years and has little to show for it.
Both times, he wound up six shots out of the lead, for different reasons.
He opened with a 65 last year, a good score except when compared with another guy in his group – Justin Thomas – who shot a 59.

Spieth made eight birdies on Thursday and was still six shots behind, this time from one hole.
He had a snowman – 8 – on his card.
In Hawaii, no less.
He had to settle for a 69, thanks to a beautiful chip over the bunker to inches from the cup on his last hole at the par-5 ninth for a birdie. It left him closer to the cut line than to the co-leaders, Zach Johnson and Chris Kirk, who kept clean cards in their rounds of 7-under 63.
One shot off the tee led to the calamity.
”I’m looking for my best chance to make bogey,” Spieth said to his caddie from the bottom of an 8-foot ditch as he surveyed his opti..
Kirk, Zach Johnson lead Sony Open, Spieth takes late tumble (Jan 11, 2018)
HONOLULU (AP) Zach Johnson and Chris Kirk each made seven birdies and shared the lead in the Sony Open.
Jordan Spieth made eight birdies and for the second straight year walked away from Waialae Country Club amazed that he could be six shots behind.
A year ago, it was because Justin Thomas shot 59 playing in the same group.

On Thursday, it was one hole.
Spieth hit four trees with four shots on the par-4 eighth hole – his 17th of the opening round – starting with a tough break when his tee shot caromed off the trunk of a tree and down an 8-foot deep ditch that left him no good options. He wound up with a quadruple-bogey 8 and had to settle for a 69.
He signed his card, signed autographs and declined requests to speak to the media.
Johnson and Kirk kept clean cards playing on opposite sides of the draw and closed with different brands of birdies on the par-5 18th hole – Kirk two-putted from about 10 feet, while Johnson found a bunker, laid up and ..
Kirk takes lead, Spieth takes late tumble at Sony Open (Jan 11, 2018)
HONOLULU (AP) Chris Kirk finished a strong opening round at the Sony Open with a birdie for a 7-under 63.
Jordan Spieth wasn’t quite so fortunate.
Spieth hit four trees with four shots on the par-4 eighth, starting with a tee shot that caromed off the trunk into a ditch. He made a quadruple-bogey 8 on his 17th hole of the round and even a birdie at his final hole was only good for a 69.

Kirk played bogey-free on a gorgeous day along the shores just down from Waikiki Beach and had a one-shot lead among the early starters.
Defending champion Justin Thomas, who opened the Sony Open last year with a 59 and went on to a record performance at Waialae Country Club, was among those playing in the afternoon.
