LaVar Ball’s sons are about to play for a coach who sells meat out of his car. Yep.

James Devaney(Photo by James Devaney/Getty Images)Last week we relayed the story of Lithuanian basketball coach Virginijus Seskus ridiculing a report that basketball patriarch and human empty K-cup LaVar Ball would be sending his sons to the coach's team. Sadly for Seskus, the report turned out to be true. Fortunately for those hoping the Ball family will disappear into a black hole, it doesn't sound like they know what they signed up for.
Forget that Prienu Vytautas, the Lithuanian club in question, is like rookie ball compared to the NBA. Or that the Balls won't even be playing for the A team, likely suiting up for the squad's minor-league games instead. Oh, and the team plays in a 1,500-seat arena (half of which are bought by the owner for family and friends) with a majority of the players making $500 a month. No, what's this a match made in hell is…Seskus.
ESPN reports that he's considered the “LaVar Ball of Lithuania,” with a former player telling t..

Here’s video footage taken of Jupiter that reminds us how incredibly small we really are

This week’s best and most inspiring news comes to us live from the Great Red Spot of Jupiter, an enormous raging crimson nightmare of a storm that’s taking place on an alien planet that would incinerate anyone who wandered near it. To recap: Today’s most gasp-worthy headline is from a planet that would kill us, which sounds weird, but wait until you see the video.
Indeed, at the close of 2017, things are still reasonably jacked: Politics continues to dominate news feeds, the murderous touch of winter has descended upon most of the country and Jake Arrieta might be going to the Phillies or, dear God, the Washington Nationals. Which is why it’s helpful to remember that, in other parts of the solar system, things are going along swimmingly. This week, NASA released a video from its Juno spacecraft, which has been in orbit around Jupiter for the past year, collecting data, shooting viral videos and — just to reiterate — being an object that humans launched from planet Earth that is current..

You need to see the callouses on this pro golfer’s hands

Who says golf isn't tough work? It might not be working as a tradesman out in the field, but to be as good as a tour pro, you need to practice, and practice, and then practice some more.
We have the latest bit of evidence of just how much that practice takes a toll on pro golfers from European Tour pro Alex Noren, thanks to a photo shared via his tour buddy Kristoffer Broberg. Apparently Noren, known as one of the hardest workers on the tour, wears two gloves to protect his hands after all those practice shots.
Noren has transformed himself into one of the best players in the world with his success in the past two years. And now we see what it takes to turn yourself into an elite golfer.

If anyone doubted golfers were tough, this should put that argument to rest. Those are the hands of a tough, working man.

LPGA adding 2 events on West Coast for 2018

The LPGA Tour is adding two tournaments in California next year as part of a 34-tournament schedule that offers a record $68.75 million in prize money.

Coming off a year in which a record 17 players earned at least $1 million, the LPGA Tour put together a 2018 schedule that it hopes to build momentum. While it lost two events – Lorena Ochoa Match Play in Mexico and the Manulife LPGA Classic in Canada – the LPGA replaced them with three new tournaments.

Two of them are in the United States, bringing the number of domestic events to 19.

The new California events will be held in the Los Angeles area on April 19-22, and at Lake Merced in San Francisco a week later.

The other addition is a tournament in Shanghai. That will be played Oct. 18-21 as part of a seven-tournament swing through Asia.

Can chewing gum improve your golf scores?

Christian Petersen(Photo by Christian Petersen/Getty Images)Forgot dropping cash on a new driver or spending hours at the range. Turns out all you need for an improved golf game is…gum and caffeine.
Studies by the National Institutes of Health have shown that “a moderate dose of caffeine consumed before and during a round of golf improves golf-specific measures of performance and reduces fatigue.” Results that are supported by Auburn University, which took the examination further, stating caffeine use can shave two strokes off one's handicap. The NIH also found that chewing gum was associated with enhanced productivity and reduced cognitive errors.
Keeping these findings in mind, a Colorado company has introduced “Golf Gum,” which — you guessed it — is a chewing product designed for hackers.
“There’s an evolving consumer demand for cleaner supplements,” says Troy Widgery, Apollo Gum's CEO. “We’re creating the future of energy. Golf Gum’s liquid core delivery system rapid..

Column: Defining shots based on every club in the bag

Some of the defining shots on the PGA Tour this year were hit from the tee and fairway, from the bunkers and behind trees, and even from the driving range.

Two of them effectively clinched a first major. One of them introduced another young star.

One way to look back on 2017 is through every club in the bag. The shots weren’t necessarily the best, but they helped shape the year.

DRIVER: Moments after Dustin Johnson made a birdie putt to force a sudden-death playoff at the Northern Trust, he effectively ended it with one swing . CBS analyst Nick Faldo pointed to a bunker beyond the right side of the lake on the 18th hole at Glen Oaks as a target for Johnson’s powerful fade. Instead, he took it over the entire lake, a 341-yard blast. That left him a lob wedge to 4 feet for birdie to beat Jordan Spieth.

3-WOOD: ”Oh gosh, Jimmy, be good.” Justin Thomas was speaking to caddie Jimmy Johnson after launching a 3-wood from 310 yards to the elevated green on ..
