Remembering the greatest mustache team in sports: The ’86 Mets

Ronald C. Modra/Sports ImageryAs the calendar shifts from October to November, so goes the facial hair of men across America. Each November clean-shaven dudes and bearded bros meet in the middle for #Movember, an annual, month-long celebration of the mustache designed to raise awareness for a variety of men's health issues, from prostate cancer to depression. In order to show our down-ness with that cause, we here at The Loop decided to take a look back at the greatest group of mustachioed men in sports history: The 1986 World-Champion New York Mets. From Hernandez to HoJo, no upper lip went undusted at Shea in the mid-80s, and even though there was no hashtag to justify it, the Mets mustache remains one of New York sports' most iconic trademarks.

Pathetic question of the week: Do I let my Dodger-loving 12-year-old watch all of Game 7 tonight?

In 1986, I was in seventh grade, and my favorite baseball team was playing in Game 7 of the World Series. As I recall, that game was on a Monday night, and the question of whether I should stay up to watch the pivotal game. . . actually this was never a question. As much as my parents wanted to spare me the embarrassment of falling asleep in a pool of drool on my desk in math class the following morning, they also knew they were fighting an uphill battle. I was an irrational Mets fan at the height of my irrational baseball fandom, and if it came to it, would have picketed our front yard with a bullhorn, or at the very least snuck out of my bedroom to watch the game at the local bar.
Fast forward three decades, and my oldest son is in seventh grade, and his team is in Game 7 of the World Series. It’s not the same team, because I’ve noted before that this son is infuriatingly independent-minded. But the parallel is worth nothing, and now that I have at least created the facade of being a..

One red-hot gambler is letting $14 MILLION ride on Game 7 of the World Series

Christian PetersenLOS ANGELES, CA – OCTOBER 31: Joc Pederson #31 of the Los Angeles Dodgers celebrates with Yasiel Puig #66 and Chris Taylor #3 after defeating the Houston Astros 3-1 in game six of the 2017 World Series at Dodger Stadium on October 31, 2017 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo by Christian Petersen/Getty Images)Game 7s always get the juices flowing, but one man with seemingly no ties to either the Los Angeles Dodgers or the Houston Astros will be more into how the World Series concludes than anyone. Or rather, he'll be more invested.

According to RJ Bell, a Vegas handicapper who provides odds to the Associated Press, one gambler has correctly picked the first six games of the World Series, netting him a whopping $14 MILLION. Even more incredible is that he is believed to be letting it ride again on Wednesday night's game.

The best golf-related Halloween costumes of 2017

Halloween 2017 is officially a wrap, and it's time to turn the page to November and Thanksgiving. Soon it will be Christmas, and even sooner it will be Masters Thursday… we don't mean to rush, but, get excited people.
But first, we rounded up all the best golf-related costumes from October 31st, and there were some good ones. We'll kick it off with the best-of-the-best and move our way down from there. Not to declare a “winner” of Halloween, since literally everyone on the internet “won” Halloween in some capacity, but this kid just might have:

The attention to detail here is impeccable. From the Polo and Citi logos to the tie, to the shoes, it's very well done. If we had to nitpick though, where's the Scotty Cameron putter? Almost perfect. Now, on to the rest…

Bright lights, big checks & crazy putting strokes: Scenes from the inaugural Major Series of Putting in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS — For 10 days this fall, some of the best putters — and certainly, the most avid — descended on Sin City for the inaugural Major Series of Putting. Hailing from all around the country and beyond, they played for big checks under bright lights while showcasing a wide variety of strokes on the green. Here's some of what I saw in my three days covering the event.
Construction for the MSOP Stadium began in August. It was built in a parking lot just off the Vegas strip, behind Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. The plan was for this to be a temporary structure, but tournament organizers are hoping it becomes a permanent destination, much like Topgolf Las Vegas, which sits about a pitching wedge away (that's Topgolf's net in the background).
FacebookPinterestInside is an 18-hole putting course made by Southwest Greens in conjunction with Nicklaus Design. All the holes are par 2s, but they range from six to 55 feet in distance, and each has two sets of tees, which o..
