Johnson shoots 63 with new putter for lead at HSBC Champions

SHANGHAI (AP) Dustin Johnson was handed a new putter 15 minutes before he teed off and shot a 9-under 63 on Friday for a one-shot lead over Brooks Koepka going into the weekend at the HSBC Champions.

Johnson birdied his last four holes at Sheshan International using a TaylorMade Spider with a different insert. He was on the range when he got the new putter, rapped a few shots on the practice green and then made just about everything he looked at.

Johnson, the No. 1 player in the world and winner of the HSBC Champions four years ago, was at 13-under 131.

Koepka birdied his first two holes and two of his last three holes for a 68.

Tiger Woods pleads guilty to reckless driving, avoids jail

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. (AP) Tiger Woods pleaded guilty Friday to reckless driving in a deal that will keep him out of jail as long as he stays out of trouble, resolving charges from an arrest last spring in which he was found passed out in his Mercedes with prescription drugs and marijuana in his system.

Woods spoke only briefly during a hearing at a Palm Beach County courthouse, answering questions from a judge about his plea agreement. Prosecutors dropped a driving under the influence charge for the superstar golfer, and the judge warned him to behave.

”This particular plea agreement has no jail time on it. However, if you violate your probation in any significant way, I could revoke your probation and then I could sentence you to jail for 90 days with a fine of up to $500, is that understood?” Judge Sandra Bosso-Pardo said.

Landry finished in seventh place at the Safeway Open in Napa, California, earlier this month. He followed that up with Thursday’s opening flourish that even he found a hard to believe.

”Oh, man, it’s been a while,” Landry said. ”I mean, I do it every now and then when I’m at my home course, but to do it in the tournament, it’s been a long time.”

Spaun made seven birdies and one bogey. He’s in h..

What To Expect from the JFK Files: A conspiracy Q & A

William Manchester, at the beginning of his 1967 dissection of the JFK assassination The Death of a President, cautioned that “the sum of a million facts is not the truth.” In that spirit, here's a look at what we can expect from Thursday's (supposed) release of the remaining classified “JFK files.”
Spoiler: Not much.
FacebookPinterestWhat's being released?
Today the National Archives is (allegedly) publishing somewhere around 3,100 previously classified documents concerning the 1963 assassination of JFK. Over the years some 30,000 documents (millions of pages) have been released, and in 1992, largely because of the groundswell caused by Oliver Stone's film JFK, President George H.W. Bush signed an order that the final documents be released this year. Some were declassified this July, and the balance is expected to drop today.
But here's one of many kickers: That declassification schedule isn't scripted the way a movie would be, not “save the best for last..

Skip Bayless wins dumbest tweet of the year award with over-the-top defense of Lonzo Ball

Lonzo Ball's rookie season in the NBA is off to a solid start with averages of 11.5 points, 9 assists, and 9 rebounds as the rebuilding Lakers have won two of their first four games. Ball has managed this despite having a pretty big target on his back thanks to being the No. 2 pick in June's draft — and thanks to his dad's big mouth. As rapper Snoop Dogg so eloquently put it recently, “I think his father put him in the lion’s den with some pork chop drawers on.”
RELATED: Lonzo Ball roasts his dad in funny Father's Day commercial
LaVar Ball is loud, LaVar Ball is annoying, and LaVar Ball is laughing all the way to the bank as every second of exposure means his Big Baller Brand sells more over-priced merchandise. There's no denying his words have made things more difficult for Lonzo, who turns 20 on Friday — but there's also no denying that Fox Sports personality/blowhard Skip Bayless went way, way overboard with his defense of the younger Ball on Wednesda..

News anchor tries world’s hottest chip, ends up puking on live TV

The Carolina Reaper Pepper is the hottest pepper on earth. Clocking in at Guinness World Record-incinerating 1,569,300 heat units on the Scoville Scale—the scientific measurement of pepper heat based on science and stuff—the Carolina Reaper is practically chemical warfare. Spicy snack purveyors Pacqui aren’t afraid, however, weaponizing the pepper in their new Carolina Reaper Madness, an individually packaged publicity stunt-cum-torture device now infamously known as the hottest chip on earth.
To celebrate the relaunch of this edible welding torch, Pacqui created something they call the #OneChipChallenge, and as you might expect, the rules are simple: Film yourself eating one full Carolina Reaper Madness—which comes fittingly packaged in a casket-shaped container—post it online with the hashtag included, and hope that your pain and idiocy are enough to earn you a free year’s worth of non-Carolina Reaper Madness Pacqui chips.
Enter poor Natalie Tysdal, co-anchor of Denver’s Channel 2 Da..

Steve Nash got his own championship ring ceremony — and for some reason, Steve Kerr was shirtless

Steve Nash won the NBA MVP twice, led the league in assists five times and made eight All-Star teams during a playing career that will land him a spot in basketball's Hall of Fame when he becomes eligible in 2020. But for all his accomplishments on the court, the point guard never won an NBA Championship. In fact, his teams never even reached the NBA Finals.

But that changed when Nash became a consultant for the Golden State Warriors last season. And on Wednesday, he was finally awarded that elusive championship ring from Golden State head coach Steve Kerr. A shirtless Steve Kerr, that is. Nash shared this amusing photo on Instagram:

According to SFGate.com, Nash has worked with fellow two-time MVP Stephen Curry since 2015, and Kevin Durant refers to him as “my Yoda.” The team officially received their rings on opening night last week, but Nash declined to be a part of the cer..

Watch a PGA Tour rookie take down table tennis legend Matt Kuchar

Matt Kuchar's reputation precedes him. He's the King of Swing. The Sultan of Swat. The most feared man in the team room.
Of course, we're talking about Kuchar's ping-pong skills.
Sorry, make that table tennis. That's what serious players like Kuchar call it. And yet one PGA Tour rookie, Zecheng “Marty” Dou, didn't look intimidated in the least when the two matched up on the eve of the WGC-HSBC Champions in Shanghai.
Perhaps, Dou, who became the first Chinese-born golfer to earn his PGA Tour card in July, just isn't fazed by anything. Or perhaps, at 20, he's too young to know he was supposed to be quaking in the presence of such ping-pong greatness. Either way, he did this:

A few observations:
1. Why did they only play to 11 instead of 21? Playing to 11 is too much of a crapshoot. (I Googled it and apparently this was a big rules change in 2001. Still, I don't like it.)
2. Zecheng Dou has ..
