The only question then was what would his 72-hole score be, how much would he win by and how badly would be break the tournament record.
Come Thursday night the answers were 22-under 266, three strokes over Reid Davenport, and five strokes over Pat Perez’ previous mark, set in 1993.

(Photo by David Cannon/Getty Images)Jessica Korda took to Instagram on Thursday to announce that she has withdrawn from the Ricoh Women’s British Open at Kingsbarns in Fife, Scotland, citing the re-emergence of an arm injury. For much of the season, Korda has had tape on her left forearm. Although the injury seemed manageable, Korda said she re-strained the arm at Kingsbarns.
Korda had shot a four-over 76 in the first round on Thursday, which left T-131, 12 strokes behind Day 1 leader Michelle Wie. Dropping out of any event is never an easy decision, but dropping out of a major is even harder. Watch highlights of Stephen Curry’s impressive Web.com Tour debut

Stephen Curry shouldn't think about quitting his day job just yet, but for one day, he showed he can hang with some of the best golfers in the world.
Shortly after helping to lead the Golden State Warriors to a second NBA title in three seasons, Curry accepted a sponsor's invitation to play in this week's Web.com Tour's Ellie Mae Classic. The decision sparked a big debate over whether Curry should take a spot in an actual tournament, but the two-time NBA MVP proved a lot of doubters wrong with an impressive opening round of 74 on Thursday.
Before he teed off in his first round, sportsbooks listed Curry as +900 (A $100 wager would win you $900) to make the cut and -2500 (Risking $2,500 to win $100) to miss the cut. The over/under for his high score for the tournament was set at 79.5 (TPC Stonebrae is a par 70) and for his low score at 76.5. If you bet on the latter, congratulations. Although you might have a gambling problem.

AKRON, Ohio – It isn’t easy flying under the radar when you’re No. 1 in the world, the defending champion of this week’s World Golf Championship event and going for an unprecedented third WGC title in a calendar year.
But there goes Dustin Johnson, who, naturally, doesn’t mind one bit that the spotlight is on British Open champion Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy, who created a stir by jettisoning his longtime caddie J.P. Fitzgerald last week.
“What do you think?” Johnson responded with a grin when asked about the attention being expended on two of his closest rivals.
We’re thinking no, he doesn't mind.
Johnson then shrugged in that carefree way he has. Nobody shrugs better than Dustin Johnson.
That he proved on Thursday at Firestone Country Club, when he opened defense of his WG..
