Venus Williams asking for coffee “ASAP” mid-match is the most relatable sports moment ever

Rob CarrWhat does America run on? Dunkin'. What goes best with a cup of coffee? Another one. Wanna hear a joke? Decaf. Humanity's fetishization of the rich, roasty elixir is well documented and well earned. Hell, I'm having an overpriced cup as I sit here and write this—a story about Venus Williams, one half of the most dominant sibling duo in tennis history, begging her coach for coffee “like ASAP” during a changeover in her Cincinnati Masters match against Donna Vekic on Thursday. Too often, professional sports and the athletes that populate them can feel completely removed from reality, a different species walking the surface of a distant planet, but this, ladies and gentleman of earth, is as human as you and I.

The exchange itself is hilarious, with Venus calling her coach over and mumbling “coffee” at him before he even sits down, clearly aware of the eavesdropping TV mics. Her coach concedes, but wants to deliver a..

Rory McIlroy confused the heck out of a marshal by taking a ridiculous line off the tee

We've seen Rory McIlroy hit some prodigious drives through the years, but it was one that went unseen by a marshal on Thursday at Medinah that proved to be particularly entertaining.
RELATED: Tiger causes a stir with his arrival for first round
During the opening round of the BMW Championship, the four-time major champ played his normal aggressive style. The line he took off the tee on the par-4 ninth, though. . . well, let's just say this isn't how the hole was meant to be played:

BOLD!
FacebookPinterestBut did you notice the best part? The marshal right at the end of the clip has NO clue where McIlroy's golf ball went.
FacebookPinterestNot that we blame him. That was absolutely ridiculous. So was the fact that Rory averaged 320.9 yards per tee shot on his front nine:

The drive on No. 9 just clipped that number at 325 yards, but unfortunately, McIlroy wound..

Tiger Woods shows up to course rocking his hat backward, Golf Twitter reacts accordingly

Tiger Woods sent Golf Twitter into a funk last week when he withdrew from the Northern Trust ahead of his second round. He completely revived his worried fanbase on Thursday, however, with one simple gesture: Turning his hat around.

Woods arrived for his 12:54 ET tee time at Medinah rocking his Nike cap backward, and while this shouldn't be a big deal, it was treated like one. Have a look:

Joe LaCava recalls his hilarious response when Tiger Woods asked him to be his caddie

David CannonOn Wednesday night, Joe LaCava was inducted into the Caddie Hall of Fame, a well-deserved honor for a guy who stuck by Tiger Woods through all his injuries and reaped the benefits this year in the form of a Masters victory. And to think, LaCava almost said no to Woods when he first asked him to be his caddie in 2011.
RELATED: The time Joe LaCava paid a heckler to leave a golf tournament
Just kidding. During his induction speech on the eve of the BMW Championship, LaCava retold the story of the time Woods asked if he was “interested” in looping for him. After mulling it over for a grand total of 0.00001 seconds, Joey gave Woods his answer. We'll let him take it from there:
https://twitter.com/Skratch/status/1162010892323737600
If Tiger ever asked you to be his caddie, you'd likely have a similar answer. The fact he asked Joey if he was “interested” is high comedy. That's like being asked if you're interested in breathing.
That said, LaCava had a pretty de..

Phil Mickelson, Luke Donald exchange Twitter barbs (And GIFs) over use of greens books

On the heels of that impromptu face-to-face meeting between Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka at Liberty National, another squabble between two PGA Tour stars regarding the topic of slow play has broken out. Only Phil Mickelson and Luke Donald are handling their disagreement like real men of the 21st century should: By taking it to Twitter.
RELATED: Phil Mickelson is No. 1 in our PGA Tour Content Kings ranking
To be clear, the issue at hand isn’t a specific player—although, all of this has stemmed from a pair of deliberate DeChambeau videos that went viral last week—but rather the use of greens books. Depending on who you talk to, these things either cause golfers to play slower or merely make it look like golfers are playing slower.
Mickelson is in the latter camp, and he stuck up for these green-reading books with this Tuesday tweet that said, “For anyone to say they slow up play is flat out idiotic.” After Golf Digest relayed Phil’s strong thoughts on the matter, Luke Donald respo..
