Sorry, Jeff McNeil, but this is the lamest excuse to miss a game ever

Hannah FoslienUnless you're Cal Ripken or Eli Manning with any coach other than Ben McAdoo, pro athletes miss games. They all get banged up to the point of not being able to play. Again, other than Eli the Great. What a gritty, gutty legend. However, in recent years, we've seen more and more players taking time off just to rejuvenate. It makes sense considering how long—and kind of meaningless—the regular seasons are, particularly in basketball. Still, you hate to see it, especially if you forked over good money just to see your team's star player modeling a suit on the bench.

The San Antonio Spurs really started this trend under Greg Popovich, famously getting fined for resting four of their star players for a nationally televised game against the Heat in 2012 (The Spurs still almost won. . . POP!). But while you may argue with this strategy of saving guys so they're fresh for the p..

Six authentic golf/country club moments in Caddyshack (And a few others that rang hollow)

Orion Pictures/Getty Images(This post was originally published in 2017.)
On this date in 1980, a little arthouse film called Caddyshack was released upon the world. The movie is an indelible part of the game's fabric: almost every golfer owns the movie, or has seen enough reruns on Golf Channel to recite the dialogue by heart. Well, unless your Golf Digest's Alex Myers, who somehow in his 37 years of existence has watched the cult classic just once. Once!
FacebookPinterestThe movie continues to hold a relevant place in culture, evidenced by the celebration surrounding its Netflix debut this January. Which makes sense: even for the hoards of hackers who know every word of the film, there's a comfort knowing Carl Spackler, Al Czervik, Judge Smails, Ty Webb and the rest of the Bushwood C.C. gang are readily available at a moment's notice.

Golf-themed gender reveal dramatically improved by below-the-belt KO

If the internet is any indication, 60% of all gender reveals end in divorce disaster. Whether it be a simple swing and miss or a literal bomb that sparks a wildfire and gets you sued by the state of Arizona for a cool 8 mil, there's a good chance that if you're finding out the gender of your child the same time Twitter is, things went very, very sideways. Hell, even some of the successful examples—like this Louisiana iteration starring an alligator and a watermelon—constitute a fail by most working definitions of the term. Thus when Johnny Golf here decided to tee it up to discover the gender of his little Tiger and/or Annika, you just knew something wondrously, awful was going to happen and, sure enough, it did. Gentleman, ice packs at the ready.

Now any idiot on earth knows not to stand directly downrange (or safe stage left/right, depending on your buddy's miss), so unfortunately the blame for this heat-seeking crotch shot falls solely on the ..

Reminder: Righty PGA Tour stars have better lefty swings than your normal golf swing

If you're a glass-half-full person, you'll probably take something positive from the following video. More likely, it will just depress you.
We all know that PGA Tour pros have better golf swings than the rest of us hacks. And most of us know these guys can even switch-hit a golf ball better than us (Bryson DeChambeau and Dustin Johnson come to mind with this neat trick). But the reminders of this never cease to amaze.

The latest comes from Wednesday at TPC Southwind where the world's best golfers are gearing up for this week's WGC-Memphis St. Jude Invitational. Right-handers Justin Thomas, Xander Schauffele, and Max Homa grabbed a left-handed driver and gave it a rip. Here's what happened:

OK, so Homa actually looked like a hack. But in typical Tour Twitter GOAT fashion, he offered up this funny explanation for the shot after:

Dennis Smith Jr. pulls off incredibly nasty dunk, gives Knicks fans a glimmer of hope

No matter how you spin it, the New York Knicks had a disappointing off-season in failing to land any of the prized free agents. Heck, they didn't even get Long Island native Tobias Harris, and had two of the biggest names—Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving—spurn them for the city rival Brooklyn Nets. As Stephen A. Smith would say, though, HOWEVAH, they still have reason to hope for a brighter future.

Actually, that's not true. As we've seen with some spectacular on-air rants in recent months, the lifelong Knicks fan would be the last person to say that. He's as disillusioned about this franchise as anyone. But even the ESPN pundit would admit the team has one of the best human highlight reels in the league: Dennis Smith Jr.
The book is still out on the 21-year-old as an NBA point guard—Can he lead a contender or is he just a taller Nate Robinson?—but there's no debating he has some of the mos..
