The all-out war between batters and pitchers has made its way to the College World Series, and it got particularly heated on Friday night in Omaha.

In an elimination game between Vanderbilt and Louisville, with a trip to the CWS Finals on the line, junior Cardinals pitcher Luke Smith pitched a masterpiece of a game. After seven and two-thirds, the right hander from Champaign, Ill., had struck out nine Commodores, given up just one run and was poised to go the distance. With two outs and nobody on, Smith recorded his 10th strikeout of the night on a filthy curveball, then stared down Vandy first baseman Julian Infante and dropped two HARD “F— YOU”'s in his direction. He also added a couple “sit the f— downs,” we think. Have a watch at the exchange that set Twitter aflame:

Albert Pujols received an all-time ovation in his first trip back to St. Louis on Friday night

Dilip VishwanatSt. Louis Cardinals fans are notorious for telling other fans what great baseball fans they are. On Friday night at Busch Stadium, they may have proved their point.
Instead of telling everybody how great they are, the St. Louis fans showed it, giving Albert Pujols one of the all-time greatest standing ovations in his first trip back to Busch Stadium as a Los Angeles Angel. That may have come as a bit of a surprise to some, as Pujols has been in L.A. since 2013. But the Angels have only played a pair of series against the Cardinals during Pujols time there, and both series, one in 2013 and one in 2016, took place in L.A. This was L.A.'s first game at Busch since May of 2010, a year Pujols finished second in the MVP voting as a Cardinal. St. Louis fans have been waiting a long time to pay their respects to the franchise legend, and it showed before his first at-bat Friday night:

Many people are saying Kyrie Irving called into a Boston radio show to defend himself

Nathaniel S. ButlerJudging by many of Kyrie Irving's actions during his very short time in Boston, one could surmise that the point guard is a bit thin-skinned. This conspiracy theory floating around on Twitter won't help change that narrative.
This past Wednesday on the “Zolak & Bertrand Show,” a Boston sports radio program, a caller named “Mikey in Waltham” phoned in to defend Kyrie Irving.”So, I was just calling in saying that, with such a rare talent like Kyrie, it's a shame that the fans didn't welcome him in more,” Mikey said. “Talents like that are so rare they come by fast, and I think it serves us right that now he's gone and look at what were left with.”

Mikey's staunch defense of Irving immediately raised the eyebrows of one of the show's hosts, who said “wow, that's him,” implying it was Irving calling into the show and defending himself..

European Tour pro hits fan in grandstands, treats him to drinks

If you're going to get hit by a golf ball at a tournament, you may as well get hit by a European player, because there's a good chance it will be a memorable encounter. In 2014, Sergio Garcia helped lead a search party for a diamond he'd knocked out of a woman's engagement ring, and just last week at the U.S. Open, Henrik Stenson laid down next to an injured fan and took funny selfies with him. But Jordan Smith took things to another level on Friday.

During the second round of the BMW International Open, the one-time European Tour winner yanked his second shot into the grandstands on the 18th hole at Munich Golf Club. He wound up buying the unlucky fan a drink:

Or should we say drinks? As in plural. It looks like the two really hit it off following the round and took the party inside:
