While they have long been known for their innovative, high-performing irons, Mizuno has recently made a serious push into the woods category, with the launch of their new JPX900 Driver, Fairway Wood and Hybrid series.
Inside Golf were among the first to test-drive these sleek, new sticks, and we are excited to report that they are phenomenal. We’ve tried many drivers and woods over the years, but the Mizuno JPX900 may very well be one of the best!
With the launch of the line, Mizuno stated that the JPX900 “showcases a science-driven process to create clubs with the ultimate in optimisation, performance and control”. When they say ‘optimisation’, they aren’t kidding, as the JPX900 Driver offers a mind-bending array of adjustments you can make to dial-in the EXACT ball flight you are looking for. Just looking at the sole of the club—with all the adjustable weights and slots—fills you with excitement and confidence that this club has every game and swing covered.

We Tried It: TaylorMade M2 Family
Whenever TaylorMade Golf launches a new set of clubs, I anxiously await my chance to get them out on the course for a test-drive. The last full set of TaylorMade clubs I tested – the RSi irons—were so good that I quickly added them to my bag on a permanent basis. And they have never let me down (my swing has, certainly, but never the clubs!)
So when TaylorMade announced the new M2 irons and woods, I took on the air of an expectant father, pacing the hallways in anticipation of something exciting in the immediate future.
As expected, the new M2 doesn’t disappoint.
The M2 are game improvement irons, designed for golfers who need to get maximum distance and trajectory, while also delivering great forgiveness and feel. Fortunately, there are no compromises, so players of all levels can benefit from these sleek and stylish clubs.
In creating the M2 irons, engineers employed some really cool features, including the company’s patented Speed Pocket technology. The Speed Pocket is a small s..
We tried it: PNP SiteLine putter and chipper
SiteLine Chipper
Having played golf for over 40 years, I’ve seen and tested nearly every new type of club on the market. While many of these products can easily fall into the “gimmick” category, there are a fair number of clubs that are the “real deal”, offering massive benefits to golfers of all levels.
An even smaller subset of these can be classified as a real “game changer”, offering something so unique that it can actively help a population of golfers to really reduce their handicap, and improve their enjoyment of the game.
A new product line on the market, the PNP SiteLine Putter and Chipper line, sits firmly in that second category.
Now, many golfers out there are hesitant to add a “chipper” club to their bag, whether it’s due to the thought of the perceived sledging from playing partners, or simply indecision of which of the 14 clubs in their bag should be relegated to the storage closet in favour of this new club.
To be honest, I fell into both categories. But after a few..
PING G Series Driver
PING G-Series Driver
A close-up photograph of a dragonfly was the inspiration for the primary innovation in the driver. Inspired by biomimicry, an approach to innovation that emulates nature’s time-tested patterns, PING engineers created Dragonfly Technology. The complex exoskeleton design yields PING’s thinnest (0.43 mm) and lightest crown to date, saving eight grams while creating an intricate and stable structure. The weight savings helped drive the centre of gravity lower and deeper than any PING driver, increasing dynamic loft and elevating MOI significantly for maximizing distance and forgiveness.
Researchers also studied the base flaps that minimize large-scale vortex shedding behind 18-wheel semi-trailers and integrated their learnings into the G drivers to improve aerodynamics and increase speed. Vortec Technology on the back of the club and turbulators on the crown contribute to reducing drag 37% in the impact zone, yielding greater clubhead speed and ball velocity for meas..

Going Mental: We Tried it: Pro Golf IQ
We’ve done many “we tried it” reviews in Inside Golf, but this product could very well be the most “overall game-changing” of them all.
As a lifelong golf addict, I’ve taken hundreds of lessons by dozens of professionals, read thousands of instructional articles and watched countless videos and DVDs on swing mechanics and techniques.
But despite all of that instruction over the 40+ years (or maybe even BECAUSE of it all) my handicap (and the consistency of my game) has gone up-and-down like a jumping bean on a trampoline.
The one thing that I’ve seriously lacked over all of those years, I’ve realised, is a proactive focus on the mental aspect of the game. Sure, I’ve read lots of articles and a few books on the subject of Mental golf, but to apply it all on a practical basis is another matter altogether. And these days, like many of you out there, my extremely limited practise time is often relegated to “left brain” aspects like working on swing mechanics at the range.
But we all kn..
WIN: Cobra FLY-Z + Driver
Cobra FLY-Z + Driver
Cobra’s Fly-Z+ Driver features FlipZone weight technology- a revolutionary, moveable weight system engineered to provide two different flight paths in one club that enables maximum distance for any swing and any golfer.
The key to increased distance is the ultra-low centre of gravity (CG) embodied in COBRA’s new FlipZone weight technology that gives golfers the ability to move the low CG to the front or back position. The front CG position provides a mid-launch angle with ultra-low spin and a penetrating ball flight with more roll for maximum distance, while the back CG position delivers a mid-launch angle with 400 RPM’s of additional spin, resulting in a towering ball flight, maximum distance with more carry. The Fly-Z+ driver also features Speed Channel Technology for increased ball speeds across the face for distance and forgiveness, Forged E9 Zone Face technology for a larger sweet zone and more distance on off-centre hits, multi-material construction to maxi..
