Despite $853,000 winnings, Joel Dahmen was squeezed into coach on flight from Wells Fargo Championship

Sam Greenwood(Photo by Sam Greenwood/Getty Images)Due to the big bucks involved with professional golf, many fans believe the life of PGA Tour players is all glitz and glamour. While that's true of the game's upper echelon, there's another reality for most on tour, particularly those attempting to grind out a career. They may not be roughing it at the Red Roof Inn, but it's far from rental houses and the Ritz-Carlton.
A sentiment illustrated on Monday morning by Joel Dahmen.
Dahmen is fresh off a second-place finish at the Wells Fargo Championship, a performance that earned $853,000 in earnings, by far a career-best check for the 31-year-old. For a guy ranked 527th in the world a year ago, it was another step towards proving his merits as a regular on the circuit.
Conversely, the check is also a quarter of his career earnings, and before Sunday secured his tour card for another year, the Washington product was operating in that unknown ether that's the bane of ..

Viewer Discretion Advised: Charles Barkley’s 2019 Black Masters highlights are here

Give the NBA on TNT crew all the Emmys. Over the years the quartet of EJ, Kenny, Shaq, and Chuck have crafted their very own brand of off-kilter NBA coverage, stumbling through personal beefs, career advice, nutrition tips, and bizarre performance art on their journey to center of the basketball universe. Besides their informal interplay, which usually results in one of either Shaq or Chuck threatening to feed the other a knuckle sandwich on live TV, the crew's greatest asset is their myriad interests off the court, most notably golf.
Last year, the crew launched the first-annual Black Masters, an invite-only “celebrity” golf “tournament” starring EJ, Chuck, and a host of friends and former athletes. After many shanks and much bickering, EJ took home the inaugural victory. This weekend, however, the Black Masters returned to the Legends Course at Château Élan for its second year, this time with a stacked field including Grant Hill, Gary Sheffield, Chris Webber, Vince Carter, Charl..

The Cincinnati Reds were attacked by bees, further proof that Ohio is the seventh ring of hell

Rain-outs, often. Snowstorms in Denver and Cleveland, sure. If Cal Ripken's consecutive games played streak is on the line, occasionally a power outage will “happen.”
But what went down on Monday afternoon at Great American Ball Park is one for the books.
A title between the Reds and San Francisco Giants was delayed because of…bees.

However, the game suffered just a 30-minute delay, and the first pitch was underway not because the bees had been taken care of…but because they had moved up to the press box.

Frankly, that the scoreboard operator didn't choose the Tommy Boy ..

Philly model tries to slide into Bryce Harper’s DMs, messages his pregnant wife instead

Patrick SmithI'm gonna level you guys: I've never slid to anyone's DMs for any reason. So perhaps I'm not the best person to be giving advice on the dos and don'ts of the hook-up hail mary, but I can say with some confidence, if you're going to make a pass at your city's most famous professional athlete, you should definitely double check to make sure you're not sending it to his pregnant wife instead. Just take poor Jordan for example, who tried to get all up in Bryce Harper's on-deck circle this weekend only to, uh, strike out in spectacular fashion.

Needless to say, this wouldn't have happened in D.C., where everyone lies, cheats, and steals for a living. When you bribe congressman 9-5, you're definitely not going to make these rookie mistakes off-hours. But Harper is in Philly now and, no offense, proud Philadelphians, but this pretty much tracks. Remember when you guys wo..

Legendary Dodgers manager Tommy Lasorda makes good on promise to Max Homa following Wells Fargo win

Tiger Woods might seem like the biggest L.A. Dodgers fan on the PGA Tour, but that title truly belongs to Max Homa, who claimed his first PGA Tour victory on Sunday at the Wells Fargo Championship. If you followed Max on Twitter during last year's World Series between the Dodgers and the Boston Red Sox, you witnessed Homa go through the gamut of emotions, just as any diehard fan would if their team was in the Fall Classic. “Sports are dumb, I don't even care,” Homa tweeted on October 28, the night the Sox closed out the Dodgers to win the series.
RELATED: Max Homa never gave up, and now he's a PGA Tour winner
A day earlier, Homa also sarcastically tweeted “I guess I need to rely on myself for sports success. What a joke” following the Dodgers loss in a pivotal Game 4. Little did he know that just over six months later, he'd deliver on that promise to himself in a big way, by claiming his first tour title by three strokes over the likes of Justin Rose, Sergio Garcia ..

Even horse racing can’t escape our collective replay madness

Jamie SquireWe live in the age of rules. Sports fans understand way too much about the minutiae of the games that were once enjoyed on their own merits without obsessive checking and re-checking of every critical play, all made possible by the omnipresence of extremely powerful cameras that seem to cover every square inch of action. Was it a catch? Block or charge? Did the leg beat the tag? Did Tiger drop in the correct place, or was the eagle-eyed dude watching at home right when he actually phoned CBS?
Like everything that technology has wrought in this world, it's both a blessing and a curse. On one hand, it definitely results in more correct calls being made, so on balance you can argue that the games are “fairer.” On the other, replays take forever, they absolutely kill end-of-game drama, and they shift focus from the skill of the athletes to the byzantine language and bylaws and corollaries of some dense rule book that nobody except an official should ever spend one minute o..

Max Homa is one of the funniest tour pro on Twitter—and here are his funniest tweets

Sam GreenwoodPrior to Sunday, Max Homa was best known in the golf world for his presence on Twitter, a fact he was well aware of—and proud of. “I probably have a fairly large fan base compared to what I deserve for my golf,” Homa told Ron Kroichick of the San Francisco Chronicle in February. If you're one of Homa's 30,400 followers, you know “self-owns” like this are a common occurrence for the 2013 NCAA individual champion.
But on Sunday at Quail Hollow, Homa went from “that golfer on Twitter” to PGA Tour winner, something not even he could have imagined when he missed 15 of 17 cuts on tour in 2017. Homa kept plugging away, his hard work paying off in the form of a 15-under total at the Wells Fargo Championship, which earned him two years of playing privileges on tour, a spot in the PGA Championship in two weeks at Bethpage Black, an invite to next year's Players Championship and Masters, where he'll be making his debut, and much more.
As fans of Homa's Twitte..
