Kyle Thompson is one of the winningest players in Web.com Tour history. Unfortunately, that success never carried over to the PGA Tour during a nearly two-decade-long career as a tour pro.

In his third crack at the big leagues this past season, Thompson missed the cut in 20 of 22 starts while earning only $24,878. He decided the Wyndham Championship in August would be his final tournament if he didn't qualify for the FedEx Playoffs, and he stuck to his word.
“For some reason I haven’t had nearly the monetary success of some other guys,” the five-time Web.com Tour winner told the Greenville News the week of the Wyndham. “If you get one or two good years on the PGA Tour, it can set you up for years.
Instead, after 17 years as a tour pro, the 39-year-old Thompson finally settled on his first “real job” to support his family for the foreseeable future. And he was excited about embarking on his new insurance ca..

Allstate’s chief marketing officer had no clue who won the Allstate Sugar Bowl

Move over Rikk Wilde, AKA “Technology and stuff” Chevy guy from the 2014 World Series. There is a new king/queen of awkward yet hilarious postgame viral moments at a big-time sporting event, and her name is Elizabeth Brady, chief marketing officer of Allstate.
You see, Elizabeth was not briefed on which team had just won the Sugar Bowl between Georgia and Texas, the bowl game sponsored by Allstate. That or the stage fright was so overwhelming that she couldn't see the gigantic word “TEXAS” on the front of the jerseys of all the players staring right at her as they awaited their Sugar Bowl trophy. Watch ESPN panel react to news that Urban Meyer will be teaching a class on “character”

Sure, the staggeringly-high baggage attached might give schools pause. But Liberty University, one of the most religious institutions in the country, just hired a coach who got fired from his old gig for hiring a female escort service, so let's not rule anything out.
Anyway, at least for next season, the plan is for the 54-year-old Meyer to step away from the sidelines and serve as an assistant athletic director in Columbus instead. (Or, as we're sure OSU AD Gene Smith would assert, assistant TO the athletic director.) Meyer will also be working in the classroom, teaching a course on…ahem…character. Whatever your reaction to that last sentence was, it likely wasn't as good as this outburst from ESPN's First Take panel:

Dallas Mavericks file trademarks for Luka Doncic’s, um, interesting nickname

Glenn JamesLuka Doncic has been nothing short of a revelation as an NBA rookie, dazzling fans and opponents with an array of skills while displaying a penchant for coming up clutch. At 19, he's already the undisputed leader of the Dallas Mavericks, who are a surprising contender for a playoff spot in the brutal Western Conference. Well, the undisputed Mavs leader on the court, that is. Off the court, everything runs through team owner Mark Cuban. Including nicknames.

Trademarks have been filed for Doncic's nickname, but instead of being filed by Doncic himself, they've been filed by the Mavs. And it's “trademarks” plural because Doncic's nickname is “The Matador” and if that's your nickname, then you also need to claim “El Matador.” Obviously.
