Florida State did not move the ball an inch on more than half its plays against Virginia Tech
Icon SportswireFlorida State fans had plenty of reason to be optimistic as their Seminoles warmed up at Doak Campbell Stadium on Monday night prior to a marquee matchup with Virginia Tech. The 'Noles rolled out their new black alternate uniforms, quarterback Deondre Francois was back under center after missing the entire season in 2017 with an injury, new coach Willie Taggart was ready to usher in a new era and they even did a super intimidating “swag surf” right before kickoff. It had all the makings of an electric night in Tallahassee.
Then, the game started, and Florida State's offense fell as flat as an offense possibly could have. Taggart, whose offenses have been points-scoring machines in his most recent stops at South Florida and Oregon, had the punt team on speed dial as his team failed to advance the ball drive after drive. They did manage two big plays, a 30-yard pass completion to the Virginia Tech one-yard line and an 85-yard run by Cam Akers to the Tech six-yard..
Roger Federer’s stunning U.S. Open defeat results in equally devastating loss for one risky gambler
(Photo by Alex Pantling/Getty Images)Nothing, in life, is a guarantee. Not even the surest bets. It appears nobody taught these lessons to one gambler who put way too much money on Roger Federer to advance past little-known 29-year-old Australian John Millman in the fourth round at the U.S. Open. Federer entered Monday night's match 40-0 at the U.S. Open against opponents ranked outside the top 50 in the world. And Millman had lost all 10 Grand Slam matches he had played against top-10 ranked opponents.
These facts, plus Federer's incredible record at Arthur Ashe—winning five consecutive titles from 2004-08 made the No. 2-ranked player in the world look like a lock. That is, until Millman and Federer both defied the odds.
Thanks to ESPN's Darren Rovell for alerting us to this bettor, who put WAY too much faith in all of these trends. This is what we would call a fool's bet:

Sorry Andy Murray, but there is no such thing as a “Big Four”
TPNLet's play a quick game of “which one doesn't belong.” Below, you'll find the resume of three tennis players.
Player one: Three grand slam titles, 28 ATP titles, one gold medal, one Davis Cup title, highest world ranking no. 3.
Player two: Three grand slam titles, 45 ATP titles, one year-end championship title, two gold medals, one Davis Cup title, 41 weeks as no. 1 player in the world.
Player three: Thirteen grand slam titles, 70 ATP titles, five year-end championship titles, one bronze medal, one Davis Cup title, 223 weeks as no. 1 player in the world.
This exercise is not meant to be 100 percent clear-cut, because clearly player two has a better resume than player one. However, player three is so much better than both that there's only one conclusion to draw: Players one and two are the most similar, and player three is the one who doesn't belong.
Tennis fans already know that player three is Novak Djokovic, the “least” accomplished of the triumvirate tha..

Kramer Hickok explains he took Jordan Spieth’s roommate offer because it was that or ‘live with my mom and dad’
Kramer Hickok had already earned a PGA Tour card for 2019 before closing out his wire-to-wire victory at the Web.com Tour’s DAP Championship on Sunday. But the 26-year-old former University of Texas golfer got the chance to introduce himself to a new group of golf fans when he shot a final-round 68 at Ohio’s Canterbury Country Club to post a 14-under 266 and win by three strokes.
Indeed, we got to learn how Hickok had worked his way to the Web.com Tour after a stint on the Mackenzie Tour in Canada, where he won twice and finished second three times to become the Order of Merit winner in 2017. And then in his first full year on the Web.com Tour, he finished 23rd on the season-ending money list, recording four top-10 finishes.
Most interestingly, however, we learned that Hickok has developed a close friendship with PGA Tour star Jordan Spieth. The two met when they arrived in Austin together as incoming freshman in the fall of 2011. Spieth would leave a year later to go pro, while Hickok..
