British Open 2018: Rory McIlroy lookalike wears perfect shirt at Carnoustie to avoid confusion

Rory McIlroy is at Carnoustie this week as one of the favorites to win the 2018 British Open. Also at Carnoustie? A Rory McIlroy lookalike. And he's helping to keep people from mixing up the two by wearing this perfect t-shirt during a Tuesday practice round:

That's mighty kind of the young man, who really does bear a striking resemblance to the four-time major champ. See for yourself:
FacebookPinterestAlso helpful? Wearing a Srixon hat instead of being decked out in Nike gear.
So between the hat, the shirt, and, oh yeah, the fact he isn't walking inside the ropes, fans shouldn't have much of a problem keeping the two straight. Anyway, just wanted to alert everyone of this super, super important situation in Scotland. OK, carry on. . .

Masters champion Patrick Reed eyes 2nd major win at Open

CARNOUSTIE, Scotland (AP) Patrick Reed would figure to be a player British fans love to hate, largely due to his passionate play for the other side in the Ryder Cup.

But at least one Scot found something to like Tuesday as the Masters champion tried a variety of shots in a British Open practice round on the links of Carnoustie before hitting a Scottish-like punch 6-iron that ran some 100 yards on the ground before ending up next to the pin on the 16th green.

”That’s the one!” the fan shouted, drawing a smile and a thumbs-up from Reed.

The shot was another indication that the baked-out links of Carnoustie plays entirely different than the lushly manicured fairways of Augusta National, where Reed had his breakthrough win in April to claim the green jacket.

But it’s not like Reed believes he’s not prepared to win a second major and establish himself as one of the big threats in golf. He talked after his practice round about his wife and the team he has put together to do just that.

Tiger Woods’ NSFW motivational message, Tony Romo’s biggest win, and a golf legend returns to the spotlight

Welcome to another edition of The Grind, where France’s World Cup win couldn’t have come at a better time. While the French light celebratory croissants on fire in the streets, the rest of the world will be reliving that time one of their countrymen let another iconic trophy slip through his hands. The British Open is back at Carnoustie, and that means anyone paying attention will be peppered with photos like this:

FacebookPinterestMichael Steele – EMPICSPoor guy. As a rising high school senior in 1999, I unfortunately missed watching live Jean van de Velde’s final-hole debacle while attending a basketball camp. Sadly, I also missed David Cone’s perfect game that week and had to settle for (gasp!) reading about both historic events in a newspaper. On the bright side, I remember going to town on the frozen yogurt machine in the Manhattan College cafeteria… Anyway, while the French remain scarred by this claret jug memory, having that g..

Wow, people actually care that Bryce Harper “cheated” during the Home Run Derby

Patrick McDermottFind any good thing. Seriously, anything remotely positive. Some shred of something that makes you feel slightly better about the crumbling planet around you. Found it? Good. Now type that thing into Twitter. Now watch said good thing get a torn apart like a gazelle carcass by a pack of hyenas. This, in a nutshell, is the online experience.
The technical term for this is milkshake ducking—the process of discovering an online folk hero, such as Ken Bone for instance, is actually a mouthbreathing reddit creep who makes sexually exploitative fan art of beloved anime characters for fun or something. Last night, Bryce Harper got milkshake ducked. Before the confetti had even settled on his emotional, hometown, come-from-behind, father-son-affirming Home Run Derby victory, digital rubberneckers and Mad Online Cubs fans alike rushed to their sticky keyboards to howl into the void with a single, righteous voice.
BRYCE HARPER CHEATEDDDDD BARGHHHH.

20 years after Birkdale, Rose seeks 1st British Open title

CARNOUSTIE, Scotland (AP) It’s been 20 years since Justin Rose, his slight frame shrouded by a baggy red sweater, holed out for eagle to secure a tie for fourth place at the British Open.

He was just a kid then -a 17-year-old amateur seemingly with the golfing world at his feet – but it remains his best finish at his home major.

Rose doesn’t understand why.

”I’m kind of comfortable with how bad my record’s been here,” Rose said Tuesday, two days before the British Open starts at Carnoustie, ”… and I don’t feel like there’s a reason for it, either.”

Since that iconic moment at Royal Birkdale in 1998, he’s won a major title, an Olympic gold medal and two World Golf Championships, all while becoming a Ryder Cup stalwart for the European team.

He has also risen to No. 3 in the world rankings and could even get to No. 1 with a win this week.

It means his poor British Open record really does jump out from an otherwise impressive resume.

The thing is, Rose is comfortable playing links ..
