“Are baseball players athletes?” debate takes dramatic turn as Cubs pitcher injures himself putting on pants

Jonathan Daniel(Photo by Jonathan Daniel/Getty Images)We understand the optics of a golf-based website calling out the athletic merits of another sport. That said, this news item from Chicago ain't helping the “Baseball players ARE athletes” proponents of America's pastime.
Cubs closer Brandon Morrow missed both parts of a Tuesday doubleheader, and not due to rest or a sore arm. No, the Windy City hurler was sidelined with back spasms brought on by…putting his pants on.
“Just undressing at my house,” Morrow told the Athletic. “Taking my pants off yesterday morning after we got back in at like 3 a.m. Just in the closet, got my right leg off. Left one, just felt like a spasm in my back.
“It’s frustrating any time you can’t get out there, and especially when you can’t go because it’s something like taking your pants off.”
Hey, Brandon Morrow might be a millionaire baseball player, but he puts his pants on just like you, one leg at a time.
Athlete, though, is another question. ..

Hall of Fame golfer Hubert Green dead at 71; won 2 majors

Hall of Fame golfer Hubert Green, who won a U.S. Open playing portions of the final round despite a threat against his life, has died. He was 71.

Green won the 1977 U.S. Open and the 1985 PGA Championship in a career that included 19 PGA Tour victories and four on the seniors circuit. The PGA Tour announced that Green died Tuesday after battling throat cancer.

Green held a one-stroke lead at Southern Hills in Tulsa, Oklahoma, when he completed the 14th hole of the final round of the U.S. Open. He then was notified by tournament officials they had received a threat saying he would be shot when he reached the 15th green.

Given the choice to clear the course of fans or return the following day, Green played on and captured his first major by one stroke, even making birdie at the 16th hole.

He outlasted Lee Trevino on the back side of the final round of the 1985 PGA Championship at Cherry Hills in Denver.

Green was a member of three U.S. Ryder Cup teams an..

Nothing says summer like a good ol’ fashioned softball fight

Welcome to Kingsport, Tennessee, where the sun is shinin', the grills are firin', and the parents are brawlin' at 12-and-under softball games while their children's screams drift across the outfield like a warm breeze. Needless to say, summer is finally here.
According to the Kingsport Times-News, the season arrived in full force on Saturday when about a dozen parents from two North Carolina softball teams got to whoopin' and hollerin' and even carryin' on, eventually coming to blows behind home plate. No injuries we're reported and no one was arrested, but both teams were disqualified from the tournament because, as we all know, kids should definitely be held accountable for their parents' behavior.

Luka Doncic wants to date Jennifer Aniston, buy a tiger, dunk on Kristaps Porzingis, own your heart

Sonia Canada(Photo by Sonia Canada/Getty Images)The NBA Draft is on Thursday, that magical night when we make sweeping career pronouncements on players we barely watched in college. While the draft's unpredictability makes it an entertaining watch, there are a few certainties: fashion faux pas, John Calipari taking credit for guys who were in his program for all of 16 weeks, and the Sacramento Kings messing up their draft pick.
In theory, the Kings shouldn't screw the pooch this week. Luka Doncic is widely considered the best player in the draft, but because the state of Arizona needs restitution for the money he was paid for the Wildcats of personnel makeup, the Phoenix Suns will likely select Deandre Ayton with the No. 1 pick. Meaning Doncic should go to the Kings.
Which would be a steal. Doncic just lead his Real Madrid team to the Spanish League title on Tuesday night, and won MVP honors as a 19-year-old at the EuroLeague Finals last month. He's a 6'8″ point gua..

Phil Mickelson is getting into the (robotic?) frozen yogurt business in a big way

What will Phil do next? It’s a question long been asked by golf fans due to Phil Mickelson’s unpredictable nature, and one given more emphasis after Lefty did something no one saw coming at last week’s U.S. Open. But the answer, at least, this time, has nothing to do with anything on the golf course.
Long a legend of the game, Mickelson’s next goal is to become a titan of the frozen yogurt industry. And he’s reportedly already racked up nearly as many froyo joints as he has PGA Tour titles in his illustrious career.
THE GRIND: Phil Mickelson's WTF moment & DJ/Paulina quickly move on
Mickelson and longtime agent Steve Loy are going in together on 30 locations serving the popular dessert, according to ESPN’s Darren Rovell. And these spots in Phil's native San Diego area won’t do just any kind of serving as they’ll be equipped with robots dishing out this delicious treat. Yep, robotic frozen yogurt stores. What, you thought Phil would open just any old frozen yogurt joint? Pleas..

Five-time British Open champion Peter Thomson dies

Hailed as a hero to some and as golf royalty to others, Peter Thomson, a five-time winner of the British Open and the only player in the 20th century to win the tournament for three straight years, died Wednesday. He was 88.

Thomson had been suffering from Parkinson’s disease for more than four years and died at his Melbourne home surrounded by family members, Golf Australia said.

The first Australian to win the British Open, Thomson went on to secure the title five times between 1954 and 1965, a record equaled only by American Tom Watson.

The Australian’s wins came in 1954, ’55, `56, again in 1958 and lastly in 1965 against a field that included Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus.

Only Harry Vardon, with six titles between 1896 and 1914, won more.

Thomson also tied for fourth at the 1956 U.S. Open and placed fifth in the 1957 Masters. He never played the PGA Championship.

In 1998, he captained the International side to its only win over the United State..
