This LeBron James—”Avengers: Infinity War” trailer is great, except for one gigantic flaw

The two most dominating forces in culture at the moment are “Avengers: Infinity War” and LeBron James. The former totaled $1 billion quicker than any film in movie history and spawned thousands of think-pieces and Reddit fan theories, the latter single-handedly might have killed basketball for an entire country. Following James' commanding performance over the Toronto Raptors, fans noticed the symmetry between the two forces. Specifically, James and Thanos, the magisterial villain who leaves a wake of destruction in his path.
So, the Internet being the Internet, someone compiled an Avengers-themed trailer for LeBron's historic dismantling of the Raptors, with the King playing the role of the Mad Titan:
A well-done video, beautifully cut and interweaved with “Infinity War” dialogue, real-life commentary and clips of LeBron doing LeBron things. And, at first glance, apropos, given…
SPOILER ALERT
…Thanos comes out on top at the end of the movie.
Except, one gigantic flaw wit..

A beginner’s guide to Topgolf, the best way to enjoy golf while knowing nothing about it

TopgolfIf you’re like us, you wake every morning and spent 10 minutes staring at the ceiling and thinking, What have I been doing that’s so important that I didn’t think to invent Topgolf? and then you hit yourself with a waffle and head off to your relatively boring job.
With its increasingly omnipresent web of locations — just drive toward the affluent suburb nearest you and look for 170-foot-tall netting — Topgolf has exploded thanks to its forehead-slappingly simple formula: driving range + bar + accessible vibe (because, let’s be honest, this sport can be pretty intimidating for outsiders). It works for you and your dumb golf friends; it also works for families with small children who are primarily concerned with hitting the ball in a reasonably forward-ish direction. If you’ve never been, here’s a primer on what’s going on inside the towering netting:
What is Topgolf?
Short version: three-story-tall driving range with bar and kitchen. The range is populated by several dozen bays,..

Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal provided one of the best moments of the NBA Playoffs with this heated argument over the Toronto Raptors

“Inside the NBA” is universally beloved, and arguably the only postgame show in sports that matters. The chemistry between Ernie Johnson, Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith and Shaquille O'Neal is perfectly calibrated, and though the program is guilty of making the occasional uninformed or delusional take, their opinions and observations do emit from a sincere place. Moreover, the cast is not afraid to tangle, and not just in a “Hey, the producers said we need to take different sides for captivating television” fashion.
In that same vein, sometimes things go off the rails, for better or worse. We're chalking this video up towards the former.
On Tuesday night, the crew tackled the Toronto Raptors and DeMar DeRozan, the All-NBA talent who was such a disaster in the playoffs that media and fans are questioning his future with the team. According to Barkley, the onus on fixing the relationship resides with coach Dwayne Casey. Shaq…well, Shaq did not agree. At least, we think that was..

Dylan Bundy just delivered the worst pitching performance in MLB history

Icon SportswireWe're not here to pick on anybody. We have Orioles fans on staff and we definitely understand what it's like to have a bad day at the office. That said, we have to call a matzo ball a matzo ball, and this is one big matzo ball: Dylan Bundy's performance in last night's 15-7 drubbing by the equally lowly Royals was the worst by a starting pitcher in MLB history. Full stop. On 28 pitches, Bundy gave up a single, two walks, FOUR dingers, and seven runs all without recording an out. If you're wondering what that looks like on paper, well, here you go. We hope you have strong stomach:

Even worse is how it played out in actual, horrible life. Rated NC-17 for graphic emotional violence.

By the time Bundy was yanked in the middle of the TOP of the first, he had become the first major league pitcher to ever give up four home runs without recording a..

Fowler back at Players, still looking to catapult career

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. (AP) Rickie Fowler is back at the site of his greatest victory, the one that was supposed to catapult his career.

He returns to the Players Championship with just one PGA Tour win since that dramatic closing performance on the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass in 2015.

He finished birdie-eagle-birdie-birdie to force a playoff with Sergio Garcia and Kevin Kisner, and then won on the fourth extra hole. Fowler showed the kind of back-nine resolve that’s been missing too often during his young career.

Article continues below …

The 29-year-old Fowler flashed it again during the final round at the Masters last month, making five birdies over the final 11 holes and putting pressure on winner Patrick Reed. But, once again, Fowler came up oh-so short.

”I feel like we’ve had some good chances,” Fowler said Tuesday. ”It would have been nice to have a few better finishes. … I feel like we’re in a great spot. Just get a couple things straightened out, minor tweaks, and i..

The wild ride of Justin Thomas at The Players Championship

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. (AP) About three months before Justin Thomas had his big end to a great year, he sought some advice from Rory McIlroy.

McIlroy was honest, as always, and showed just how much he pays attention.

Thomas missed the 54-hole cut at The Players Championship with a 79 in the third round, but it was his scorecard at the end of the first round and start of the second round that illustrated some of his issues.

Article continues below …

He had a 19-hole stretch that he played in even par – despite making only one par.

Starting on the 12th hole of the first round, he went birdie-bogey-bogey-bogey-eagle-birdie-bogey to cap off a 73. He returned the next day and started the second round on No. 10 and went bogey-bogey-bogey-par-birdie-birdie-birdie-bogey-double bogey, made the turn and started birdie-birdie-birdie. He shot 71.

McIlroy played with him the opening two rounds.

”I wasn’t playing well last year,” Thomas said. ”I texted Rory – we’ve played a decent amount o..

Johnson hanging on to No. 1 by a thread at The Players

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. (AP) The No. 1 ranking that Dustin Johnson has held for the last 15 months has never been more in jeopardy.

Four players behind him – Justin Thomas, Jon Rahm, Jordan Spieth and Justin Rose – have a mathematical chance this week at The Players Championship to replace Johnson atop the world ranking.

Spieth didn’t even know it.

Article continues below …

”Am I one of them?” he asked Tuesday. ”Sweet.”

He didn’t know because he didn’t particularly care. He reached No. 1 for the first time with his runner-up finish in the 2015 PGA Championship, and he returned to the top on three more occasions for a total of 26 weeks.

Spieth cares more about winning The Players Championship than any ramifications.

”It was never a goal of mine to hold it a certain length of time,” Spieth said. ”It’s almost like a feat, like winning a major. But now it’s more like … if I remained No. 2 and won majors, and was No. 1 for a long time and won six, I’d take the first one.”

Spieth r..

Column: Tiger and Phil improve relationship with age

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. (AP) Their relationship has been softened by age.

The needle is sharp as ever.

Never mind that Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson have only five victories between them over the last five years. It’s a big deal when the two best players of their generation are in the same group at any tournament, much less The Players Championship.

Article continues below …

Mickelson, of course, wanted something even better.

”I look at the cover of the newspaper and the pairing is on there and the excitement that’s been going on around here, it gets me thinking,” Mickelson said Tuesday. ”Why don’t we just bypass all the ancillary stuff of a tournament and just go head-to-head and just have kind of a high-stakes, winner-take-all match.”

Lefty was just getting warmed up.

”Now, I don’t know if he wants a piece of me,” he said, pausing for laughter, ”but I just think it would be something that would be really fun for us to do, and I think there would be a lot of interest in it i..
