(Photo by Stuart Franklin/Getty Images)DES MOINES, Iowa — The American Solheim Cup team is sleeping on a comfortable five-shot lead Saturday night as they head into the singles matches on Sunday. But it’s not like Team Europe is out of it. For one thing, Annika Sorenstam’s squad is playing some great golf. Consider that the Europeans made a collective 34 birdies and an eagle during the Saturday afternoon four-ball matches. The only problem is they won one match to fall behind 10½-5½.
Still, Sorenstam can honestly look her squad in the eye and say this competition isn’t over. It’s just a matter of finding the right motivation to keep her roster focused and optimistic as it attempts to pull off what would be the biggest comeback in Solheim..

(Photo by Stuart Franklin/Getty Images)DES MOINES, Iowa — Another dominant afternoon for the American side on Saturday has turned the 2017 Solheim Cup into a potential rout for the U.S. team.
With two days of competition complete at Des Moines Golf & Country Club, the home side has a daunting five-point lead over the Europeans. After a 2-2 split of Saturday morning matches (an improvement on the morning before for the Americans), Captain Juli Inkster’s crew claimed three of the four afternoon four-ball points to grab a 10½-5½ edge heading into the Sunday singles matches. The U.S. needs just 3½ out of 12 points on Sunday to retain the cup.
The first U.S. afternoon duo in was Brittany Lang and Brittany Lincicome. The Brittan..

(Photo by Streeter Lecka/Getty Images)It was never going to be easy to follow up the season Henrik Stenson had in 2016, one in which he captured his first major, won a silver medal at the Olympics and finished inside the top three twice. That's shown during his 2016-2017 campaign, where he's missed five of 12 cuts and registered just two top-10 finishes, both coming before April.
But the Swede has put himself in position to erase all that at the Wyndham Championship, where he holds the 54-hole lead at 16-under 194. He's ahead by one after posting a second consecutive four-under 66 on Saturday at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C.
Stenson, 41, birdied four of his first seven holes, but mixed in a bogey at the par-4 fifth and a double-boge..

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. — The American dream is alive, its manifestations varied, and for Jeff Ghim, a South Korean immigrant, it has played out with the successes of his son.
Doug Ghim will play for the U.S. Amateur championship at the Riviera Country Club here on Sunday, and following his 2 & 1 victory over Theo Humphrey, he and his father embraced.
“We made the Masters,” Jeff said to him.
The two finalists receive Masters invitations. Doc Redman, a Clemson sophomore, earned the other one by defeating Mark Lawrence Jr., 1 up. Ghim and Redman will play in the 36-hole final beginning at 7:30 a.m. (PDT) Sunday.
The happiest man on the premises on Saturday likely was neither Ghim nor Redman, but Ghim’s father, his son’s caddie and the only golf instructor he’s ever had.
“The Bible says the child is the crown of the parents,” Jef..

(Photo by David Cannon/Getty Images)DES MOINES, Iowa — Paula Creamer was initially left off the Solheim Cup team this year. She hadn’t accrued enough points over the past two seasons to play onto the team, and Captain Juli Inkster didn’t pick her as one of her two captain’s picks. Once the team was announced at the conclusion of the Ricoh Women's British Open, that was it. Creamer wasn’t going to Des Moines to represent her country.
But the day after the team was named, Jessica Korda announced she was removing herself from the team due to injury.

Stuart Franklin(Photo by Stuart Franklin/Getty Images)DES MOINES, Iowa — Watching the Solheim Cup isn’t like watching a normal women’s event. Obviously the small field of only Americans and Europeans make it different, but what really stands out is the team mentality that has taken over. The amount of smiles and cheers you see from players, the choreographed handshakes, the big celebrations, the noise, the easy-going nature of the group press conferences that are as full of jokes as they are quotes – it’s all about the team.
And it’s all very fun to watch, but these are individual athletes who have spent the vast majority of their lives functioning with that individual, take care of myself, mindset. You'd think the switch to being on a team would be a little difficult. But somehow, they effortlessly slip into the team mentality of the Solheim Cup, and thrive in it.
