Serena Williams’ husband trolls Maria Sharapova at US Open, proves true love still exists

Matthew StockmanRomance is alive and well—at least in Flushing, Queens.
In a loving gesture—equivalent to Noah restoring a house for Allie in “The Notebook,” Shah Jahan conceiving of the Taj Mahal as a dedication to his wife, and the time I constructed a newspaper to ask a girl to prom in high-school (she said yes)—Alexis Ohanian wore a shirt to the US Open.
Now I know what you’re thinking. “Hey, Greg. How does Serena Williams’ husband wearing a shirt reach the generous heights of Noah, Shah Jahan and yourself?”
First off, great question. Secondly, it’s kind of weird that you address me in your innermost thoughts. Finally, let me tell you.
In order to support Williams and make a statement, Ohanian—also the co-founder of Reddit—wore a shirt trolling his wife’s competitor. Maria Sharapova, the once-great Russian tennis player and Williams’ adversary on this fateful day, was suspended back in 2016 for 15 months for taking the banned substance meldonium. Knowing this, Ohanian donned a D.A…

Keon Broxton’s glove toss that hit the ump in the face is one of the most accurate throws of the MLB season

Move over Ramon Laureano. Take a seat Aaron Judge. The best, and most accurate throw of the MLB season came from Seattle Mariners outfielder Keon Broxton, and it wasn't even with the baseball. We'll explain.
In the bottom of the second at Safeco Field, Broxton was rung up on an extremely questionable strike three call with two outs, ending the inning. Had it been called a ball, Broxton would have earned a walk, so he was understandably upset with home plate umpire Manny Gonzalez, who was off to a rough start. Broxton pulled out all the stops, jumping up and down in disbelief, flipping his bat in frustration, smacking off his helmet and storming off like a child who just threw all his toys. Only there was one more toy to throw—his left batting glove—and he just so happened to whip it perfectly at Gonzalez's face without looking. Check out the full breakdown by the one and only Jomboy (@Jomboy):

Aaron Judge promises fan he’ll hit home run, obviously hits home run

Jayne Kamin-OnceaWe don't know when the Yankees became the good guys or how they traded in the Death Star for a rebel fighter with no one really noticing, but there's no doubt about it: These bizarro pinstripes are tough to hate. They've built the team from the inside out. They have more horsepower than a Fast and the Furious movie. They greet elderly fans during BP and are polite and gracious and promise absurd things like “I'll get one for you tonight” and then preposterously deliver. And if you're still skeptical, that's not some sort of hypothetical scenario designed to illustrate the point—it actually happened.

Cancel the Playoffs, MLB: The Yankees and Dodgers Must Play in the World Series

Jayne Kamin-OnceaBack in the day, by which I mean before 1969, there were no playoffs in baseball—the beat team from the AL met the best from the NL, they squared off in the fall classic, and that was that. With expansion, things changed. First, there was a League Championship Series (until 1993), then a Divisional Series with a wild card team (until 2011), and now we have all of that plus a wild card game, so that 10 teams technically make the playoffs each year.
All of which is good! It would be ridiculous to have only two teams play for a title in a league with 30 franchises, especially when those franchises are sorted into divisions of varying strength which creates imbalanced schedules. Nobody in his or her right mind would argue for a return to the old system…
…
…except for this year. Because the Yankees and Dodgers, the sport's greatest historical rivals (sorry, Red Sox), are the best teams by record in their respective leagues, and based on the dynamite three-game In..
