Tom Brady joins Twitter to announce retirement…we think

Kevin C. Cox(Photo by Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images)Well sports fans, it finally happened. All gunslingers hang up their spurs at some point, and after 19 seasons and six Super Bowls, it appears Tom Brady is riding off into the sunset.
A timing that initially comes off as odd, but after a quick recalculation of the present, the numbers add up. In the span of a month, the New England Patriots quarterback has lost:
Rob Gronkowski, as everyone's favorite neanderthal is trading shoulder pads for WWE stir-ups.Defensive coordinator and man who views the strict parents in Footloose as role models Greg Schiano. His character coach, which somehow is a real thing. His owner Robert Kraft to a slew of awful “It looks like Kraft finally got his seventh ring!” jokes. So while it may be a shock, we should not be surprised that Brady, is in fact, done. And as all the greats do, Brady joined the collaborative, congenial platform that is Twitter to announce his retirement:

6′ 4″ 6th-grader Jamal Brown is a walking, talking basketball cheat code

Good people of the internet, feast your eyes upon Jamal Brown. Brown is 6' 4″, can slam home alley-oops, and is in SIXTH FREAKIN' GRADE. If it weren't for 6' 10″ twelve-year-old Oliver Rioux, who plays on an eight-foot hoop, Brown may be the single most destructive basketball force on earth. Don't believe us? Just watch this and then go scrape your jaw off the floor.

Brown, who makes sixth graders look like preschoolers and Zion Williamson like Brian Scalabrine, is already attracting national interest, and will probably end up being a Duke villain come [checks calendar] 2025. Obviously, six years is a very long time and a lot can go sideways—injuries, girls, Fortnite, etc.—but if Brown eventually stops growing and keeps working on his fundamentals, which already look pretty solid, then the ceiling is the roof for this young baller.

Move over Teddy Roosevelt, the Padres’ ‘Anchorman’ derby is the new best mascot race in baseball

Ron Burgundy has had a hectic couple of days on the sports beat. Last week, he joined the booth for the call of Kings-Sharks, making out with a burrito on the kiss cam, relaying false reports of feral cats storming the ice, and recalling the time he once drank 15 Molsons. Not to content to confine his athletic expertise to the ice, however, on Friday he (or rather his foam doppelgänger; Ron is a very busy guy) took the short trip down I-5 to Petco Park to christen the new best tradition in baseball—the Padres' Anchorman mascot race, which immediately captured the hearts and minds of proud San Diegans everywhere.

Also featuring the services of Champ Kind, Brian Fantana, and Brick Tamland, the inaugural derby was a runway victory for Burgundy, who took the victory by 10 Ron lengths. More importantly, though, it already challenging the Nationals' Presidents Race for the right to be called baseball's most-absurd mid-innin..

Masters 2019: What your favorite Masters sandwich says about you

(Photo by Harry How/Getty Images)(Note: This story originally ran in 2018)
AUGUSTA, Ga. — Many people make the pilgrimage for the course. Some for the tournament, others to see their favorite players. Or at least, that's the facade. The real reason thousands come to the Masters? The concessions.
Sure, keep waxing poetic about tradition, the rite of spring, azaleas, and all the Nantz-fuzziness you can conjure. It's the food—more specifically, the sandwiches—at Augusta National that attract masses, and with good reason. They are delectable, and just as importantly, cheap. But what does your hero order say about you? After all, the Masters doesn't exist in a vacuum; everything has to be extrapolated and placed into some sort of ontological context.
Keeping that in mind, here are the deeper meanings behind a patron's menu proclivities:

Bend the knee, America: Virginia is destiny’s most boring team

Joe Robbins/NCAA PhotosLOUISVILLE, KY – MARCH 30: Head coach Tony Bennett of the Virginia Cavaliers celebrates after the Cavaliers won the South Regional in the Elite Eight round of the 2019 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament held at KFC YUM! Center on March 30, 2019 in Louisville, Kentucky. (Photo by Joe Robbins/NCAA Photos/NCAA Photos via Getty Images)Last week, I wrote that this might finally, finally be the year that Duke and UNC met in the NCAA tournament, and, well…events have forced me to reconsider. Carolina ran into a three-point buzzsaw disguised as an unremarkable SEC basketball team, and Duke met its demise Sunday against Michigan State. But aside from the failures and near-failures of Tobacco Road, I should have seen what was in front of my face: The Virginia Cavaliers are on the world's most obvious redemption tour, and it won't stop until they're cutting down the nets in Minneapolis.
In some ways, I should have seen this coming a year ago, when I and ..
