The Zurich Classic will allow two-man teams to choose walk-up music, opening the door for awkward tension

The PGA Tour is foremost a collection of independent contractors, in which players primarily answer to a constituency of one. That's why the Zurich Classic of New Orleans stands apart, because the two-man team format invites a whole host of considerations that go ignored the rest of the year
Do you wear a team uniform? Do you stay in the same hotel as your partner? And if you don't stay in the same hotel as your partner, do you at least offer to pick him up on the way to the golf course?
And now there's this: What will our walk-up song be?
Yes, in stealing a page from Major League Baseball, professional wrestling, and even perhaps a little bit of the Golden Globe Awards, the Zurich Classic announced Monday that “each two-man team will have an opportunity to select their walk-up song to be played on the first tee at TPC Louisiana” during the final two rounds of the tournament.
“Our fans and the players have enthusiastically embraced our team format,” said Steve Worthy, CE..

Tony Finau has a different definition of “My ankle is fine” than everyone else in the world

Andrew RedingtonTony Finau describes the moment he sprained his ankle at the Par 3 Contest at the Masters as embarrassing. Which, for an athlete of his caliber, is understandable. Falling over while running backwards after making a hole in one probably isn’t the scene you want to leave imprinted in fans’ minds. But I don’t think the people watching were thinking ‘Oh, he just embarrassed himself.’ No. They were thinking ‘Wow I think he just broke his ankle.’
What looked like a total dislocation and snapped bones turned out to be a sprain. Which was great news for Finau, because it meant he got to play in his first Masters. After rounds of 68-74-73-66, Finau finished in a tie for 10th place. All the while, he smiled and joked through press conferences, saying things about his ankle like, “My foot started to feel better the more I played,” and “It feels a lot better than it did yesterday.”
He was nonchalant, brushing off the fact that his ankle was bound so tight in tape that he had a ver..

Golf Channel to air…the NHL playoffs?

Somewhere, Happy Gilmore is shedding a tear.
The NHL playoffs are about to begin, and if you’re like most sane sports fans, you haven’t watched a single minute of the regular season. (And if you’re one of those lost souls who does watch the October-to-March plat, God bless ya.) Unfortunately, you may have a hard time finding the postseason games this year. NBC has the rights to the sport, so, theoretically, the Peacock and its NBC Sports channel should be the home for all your bearded-men-falling-down-on-ice action, yes?
Not quite.
The Golf Channel, also under the NBC umbrella, will broadcast two first-round Game 4s next week. Stranger, it’s not because hockey will be on the other NBC-affiliated channels:

Golf Channel is expected to only call the first-round games. Worse, they won't be worked by Golf Channel crew. I was really looking forward to hearing Rich Lerner wax poetic on hot goalies while Brandel Chamblee takes today..

Humanity’s first space hotel set to open in 2021, will cost $792,000 per night

Get ready to cash in that 401K, liquidate your stock portfolio, smash your daughter's piggy bank, and move into a Top Ramen-stocked Winnebago for the next four years, because the world's first space hotel has been announced and it ain't cheap. The ambitious brainchild of Houston-based Orion Span Inc., the so-called Aurora Space Station—the world's first “luxury” space hotel, in case you were worried about staying in some interstellar Red Roof Inn or something—is poised to launch in 2021, offering a 12-night stay package for a whopping $9.5 million (or $792,000 a night) PER PERSON.

This is no Margaritaville, however. Drifting 200 miles above the surface of the planet, the Aurora Space Station has as many limitations as it does innovations, including a four-guest capacity (plus two-crew), cramped quarters (about the size of a private jet cabin), and probably a lot of freaking Tang.
“We’re not selling a hey-let’s-..

Column: Reed shows at Masters he’s just as tough on his own

AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) One of the messages Patrick Reed received for his hard-earned Masters victory came from Tiger Woods, who added a personal touch to his tweet of congratulations .

”At worst you have assured yourself a captain’s pick for next year’s Presidents Cup,” he wrote.

That’s still 20 months away in Australia and on nobody’s mind except for Woods’, mainly because he’s the U.S. captain for the 2019 matches. Much closer on the calendar is the Ryder Cup in France at the end of September. Reed moved to the top of the standings by capturing his first major.

Article continues below …

If he wasn’t already a lock, he is now.

For the last four years, the Ryder Cup has defined Reed’s success in golf. He earned his way onto the last two teams by winning tournaments, including a World Golf Championship at Doral and a FedEx Cup playoff event at Bethpage. And as much as Reed boasted after the 2014 victory at Doral that he considered himself one of the top 5 players in the world, he didn..
