Listen to the bozo who didn’t vote for Jacob deGrom to win Cy Young hang up on a New York radio legend

Not surprisingly, New York Mets ace Jacob deGrom captured the National League Cy Young Award on Wednesday. It was the lone bright spot in another dismal season for the Mets, although, they still managed to be the brunt of a joke during the announcement. What did come as a surprise, however, is that deGrom wasn't a unanimous choice, receiving 29 of the possible 30 first-place votes by the Baseball Writers Association of America. Enter John Maffei.
For some reason, this San Diego Union-Tribune scribe went with Washington's Max Scherzer. Although, the Nationals ace had another brilliant season, he didn't have the microscopic 1.70 ERA possessed by deGrom. That absolutely absurd stat overweighed all else, including the fact deGrom only had (Shield your eyes, old school baseball people) 10 wins because he essentially plays for a minor league team. And again, it was enough for every writer voting to pick him. Except for one.

Vladimir Tarasenko gets tooth chopped out, seems weirdly psyched about going to the dentist

I don't know about you, but I hate—nay, LOATHE—the dentist. I guess that's what several invasive oral surgeries and two-years of braces in high school will do to the ol' human psyche. St. Louis Blues forward Vladimir Tarasenko, on the other hand, seems to love everything about it—from the three-month-old Time magazines in the waiting room to the taste of latex gloves in his mouth. How do we know this? Well, on Wednesday night, Tarasenko had one of his pearly whites smacked out by a high stick mid-game and responded by…smiling? Seriously, what kind of sick animal are we dealing with here?

Grinning through blood and enamel shards is only the tip of the hockey guy iceberg, however. Before Tarasenko's “say cheese” moment, he casually picked his tooth up off the ice and returned it to the bench. Afterwards, he simply played on (albeit in a losing ef..

Phil Mickelson is part showman, part cyborg as he trains for match against Tiger Woods

If you watched HBO's 24/7 on the upcoming match between Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods, you probably got the impression that Lefty is taking THE MATCH a tad more seriously. While Woods practices by himself at his home course, Phil flies a small entourage to Vegas to scout Shadow Creek ahead of the Nov. 23rd Pay-Per-View event, breaking down different holes where he plans to attack Woods and challenge him to side/sucker bets.

Mickelson's preparation is the best part of the entertaining 45-minute episode, particularly when he describes a drive he hits as a “hellacious seed” and when he cockily says he'll hit it close on one par 3 and then sticks his shot to about four feet. But in the day after it first aired, the five-time major champ provided a photo showing he has taken his training to another level.

Jacob deGrom wins Cy Young, Mets still somehow get ROASTED by guy making the announcement

Even when the Mets win, they still lose.
Case in point, this soon-to-be-viral announcement of New York ace Jacob deGrom winning the NL Cy Young, an award he 100-percent deserved after his historic year. While many believed he was a lock, there was still that tiny bit of doubt that he could get beat out by Washington Nationals hurler Max Scherzer, who notched 18 wins to go with his 2.53 ERA and 300 strikeouts. deGrom's stats were equally as eye-popping, as he posted an even better ERA of 1.70 and struck out 269 batters, but he lacked in just one area: wins. The right-hander went 10-9, which should be considered a minor miracle because of the team he played for.
Would the writers really choose Scherzer over deGrom, showing the win for starting pitchers still has value? Luckily, for the sake of the Amazins' fanbase, they did not, as deGrom was announced as the winner on Wednesday night, but not before the guy who made the announcement dropped an all-time random dagger on deGrom&..
