PGA Championship 2018: Brandon Stone damages hole on near ace; Thomas Pieters takes a picture
Bellerive Country Club's 16th hole is a brute of a par 3, yet it found itself under an aerial assault late on Saturday afternoon at the PGA Championship. First Matt Wallace made a hole-in-one on the 237-yard hole with a tucked-right pin, a feat so surprising that CBS' Verne Lundquist called him Mike Wallace. But a little later, Brandon Stone did everything but make an ace on the hole.
Watch and listen as Stone's shot hits on the front edge of the hole and clangs — and we mean CLANGS — off the flagstick before winding up about six feet away:

The shot did such damage to the hole that playing partner Thomas Pieters grabbed his phone to snap a photo:
FacebookPinterestUnfortunately for those involved — and those playing in the groups behind — the crater caused a bit of a delay. And when play resumed, Stone missed his birdie attempt to walk away with an extremely disappointing par. At least he'll probably wind up on Thoma..
PGA Championship 2018: Player makes hole-in-one at Bellerive, CBS immediately identifies him by the wrong name
ST. LOUIS — It's not been a banner week for television coverage of the PGA Championship. Due to a rights issue, viewers missed record-chasing scores on Friday morning, while technical difficulties have prevented those in the United Kingdom from watching the tournament, period. Those issues didn't end on Saturday, as CBS was riding the struggle bus.
There have been long shots on practice swings instead of live action, Nick Faldo mis-reading a situation involving Gary Woodland in a bunker, and a number of mispronunciations and straight-up mistakes on players' names (there was a moment, hand to the golf gods, where Gary McCord said “Bruce” Koepka, followed by the crew debating why Koepka doesn't get enough attention).
Among these faux pas was a cut to a roar, which had been heard minutes before, of Matt Wallace, who recorded a hole-in-one on Bellerive's 16th hole.

Tiger Woods at the PGA Championship: The 9 moments that sum up his wild Saturday at Bellerive
(Photo by Ross Kinnaird/Getty Images)Tiger Woods teed off at 8 a.m. on Saturday to complete his second round at Bellerive Country Club. What a crazy day it has been.
The 14-time major winner will have played 29 holes by day's end (barring any weather delays) in the humidity-filled St. Louis conditions. Tiger's wardrobe changes have remained an amusing storyline—Tiger has changed his shirt four times on Saturday. And it has worked thus far, as he has taken advantage of the soft conditions to vault into contention. Another stellar front nine, this time in his third round—the second straight round he has played the opening nine holes at Bellerive in 4-under—put Tiger within two of the lead at one point. Brooks Koepka now continues to increase his lead, but Tiger has remained firmly a part of the action.
Here's a quick look at Tiger's eventful Saturday at Bellerive:
First, this was the scene as Tiger, Justin Thomas and Rory McIlroy got back onto the course to finish the..

PGA Championship 2018: Tyrrell Hatton’s tee ball ended up in a cart amongst a bunch of water bottles
Andy LyonsST LOUIS, MO – AUGUST 08: Tyrrell Hatton of England reacts on the 12th tee during a practice round prior to the 2018 PGA Championship at Bellerive Country Club on August 8, 2018 in St Louis, Missouri. (Photo by Andy Lyons/Getty Images)ST. LOUIS — Today in bizarre rulings, we present Tyrrell Hatton and the cart full of water bottles.
On the fifth hole during Saturday's third round at the PGA Championship, Hatton hit his tee ball left—pretty far left. People started yelling fore, and the expected scene unfolded of crouching bodies and silent prayers that you're not about to take a PGA Tour player's tee ball straight to the head.
Buddies John Reali and Mike Schroer were among those spectators seeking cover as Hatton's ball approached. They turned out to be safe. A woman driving a cart full of water bottles, however, was a lot closer to danger.
“She's lucky she ducked,” Reali said. “It probably missed her by a foot.”
Safe from the tee ball, she was about ..

PGA Championship 2018: Rory McIlroy shanked a wedge shot off the scoreboard on the range before his third round
It's hard to fully explain the feeling one gets when watching a tour pro hit a shank. We're accustomed to watching the world's best players hit every shot more pure than most of us can dream about hitting. So when we saw Rory McIlroy clank one off the scoreboard at the PGA Championship warming up for his third round on Saturday, it was again equal shocking and riveting.
No, this wasn't a tournament-round shank, which we've seen from time to time over the past couple years. But this shank from Rory on at Bellerive Country Club was as bad as we've seen. And though we've seen some lesser-known players hit shanks, we can't remember a more high-profile player like Rory hitting a shank like this.
