Outsiders advance to GolfSixes quarterfinals

ST. ALBANS, England (AP) Rank outsiders before the start, the England Women’s team of Charley Hull and Georgia Hall and the European Women’s team of Mel Reid and Carlota Ciganda advanced to the GolfSixes quarterfinals on Saturday.

Solheim Cup teammates Reid and Ciganda did so in thrilling fashion, defeating Thailand 3-0 in their final group game and then beating defending champion Denmark on the first hole of a sudden death playoff, after the teams finished level on points and number of holes won.

Hall eagled the final hole from 20 feet to secure a 1-1 draw with the England Men’s team of Eddie Pepperell and Matt Wallace, Pepperell having hit a stunning approach to three feet on the par 5.

Bill Murray helps couple with gender reveal in Florida, remains the man

When it comes to things that are “played out”, gender reveal videos and anything Bill Murray does immediately come to mind. Put the two together though, and all we can do is tip our cap.
RELATED: A little story about Bill Murray at a bluegrass concert that will remind you not everyone sucks
That's what happened at Murray Bros. Caddyshack Golf Tournament in St. Augustine, Florida, last week, an event Jacqueline and Michael Davis attended. Michael, playing in the tournament that week, figured he'd be striking the ball like Dustin Johnson did for he and Paulina Gretzky's second baby. But according to the Daytona Beach News-Journal, the expecting couple ran into John Resig, owner of TheChive website, and he was able to get Murray to agree to do the honors:

The swing looks as smooth as ever, although it looks like he caught it a bit thin. Either way, awesome moment for this couple, who now has a gender reveal video to top..

Thomas in hunt at Wells Fargo with help from buddy Fowler

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) Justin Thomas will be playing this weekend at the Wells Fargo Championship, thanks in part to a little help from his good buddy Rickie Fowler.

After struggling with his putter during an opening-round 73 on Thursday, a frustrated Thomas went to his backup putter on the practice green. When that didn’t feel right in his hands, he sought out more desperate measures – calling his playing partner Fowler to ask if he’d brought an extra putter to Quail Hollow.

He was in luck. Fowler had two spares.

”Even my backup felt so bad in my hands, I just had to do something else,” Thomas said.

So, using a Scotty Cameron Newport 2 putter that reads ”Rickie Fowler” on it, Thomas shot 69 on Friday, leaving him safely inside the cut line. He was even par for the tournament, seven strokes behind leader Peter Malnati entering the final 36 holes.

”I didn’t actually see him until about 10 minutes before our tee time and he said he was going with it,” Fowl..

Langer races ahead at Insperity with course-record 63

THE WOODLANDS, Texas (AP) Bernhard Langer felt like his game was rounding into form after a slow start to the year by his lofty standards, and it all came together on a calm, humid day at The Woodlands Country Club.

The 60-year-old Langer shot a course-record, 9-under 63 on Friday to take a three-stroke lead at the Insperity Invitational.

Seeking his first victory of the year after seven wins in 2017, Langer began unceremoniously when his opening tee shot ricocheted backward off a tree. He still managed a birdie on the par-5 first hole and turned in 32. On the back nine, he birdied five of the first seven holes – narrowly missing eagle attempts on two par-5s – to get to 9 under and distance himself from the field.

”Starting on nine, I was pretty much putting for birdie on every hole,” Langer said. ”I made some and missed some but continued to play well and give myself chances. The last 10 holes were really good. I don’t think I hit one loose shot.

”I’ve..

Malnati leads Wells Fargo as Woods survives the cut

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) Peter Malnati and Tiger Woods both had reason to celebrate on the ninth green at Quail Hollow at the end of their rounds.

Malnati was coming off two straight birdies to take the lead Friday in the Wells Fargo Championship when he put his 5-iron in a deep bunker to the right, with the green running away from him. He was trying to blast out to 15 feet, but he got the club too much under the ball and feared for the worst until it cleared the lip by inches.

Malnati emphatically wiped his hand across his brow, made the 6-foot par putt for a 3-under 68 and had a one-shot lead over Jason Day and Aaron Wise.

”Pretty scary when I hit it,” he said. ”I got away with it, looked like a genius.”

Hours earlier, Woods stood over an 18-foot putt on No. 9, his final hole of another ordinary round that up until then featured no birdies. He finally made one, and stretched out both hands in mock celebration when it dropped.

”I’m on a hot streak right n..
