William Byron’s retro ‘Days of Thunder’ ride is the best paint scheme of the NASCAR season

A few years ago, NASCAR went back to its roots, embracing retro paint schemes for a throwback celebration held every Labor Day weekend at Darlington Raceway. The annual blast from the past was an immediate hit with drivers and fans alike, proving to be one of the illest, coolest, raddest, and grooviest—depending on your era of choice—stops on the Monster Energy Cup Series calendar. For the throwback weekend's fifth year, NASCAR's big guns have rolled out some seriously solid liveries, but none better than William Byron's #24 City Chevrolet, an incredible tip of the visor to Cole Trickle's iconic Days of Thunder whip. Let's drop the hammer, shall we?

Long-drive champ Maurice Allen just crushed one across Niagara Falls

There's nothing more fascinating than seemingly impossible benchmarks in sports, no matter how niche. For years, the skateboarding world wondered whether a 900 was possible, and then Tony Hawk pulled it off. Same goes for the running community and the three-minute mile and so on. If highest/longest/fastest/mostest is a consideration in a given sport, there will always be a mythical ceiling—a point at which the limits of the human body and the laws of gravity collide. The interesting part is finding out where, exactly, that barrier lies.
Just ask Maurice Allen. To put it simply, Allen can absolutely, positively smoke it. He won the 2018 Volvik Long Drive Championship with a 393-yard bomb. He can crush it 300 yards with a putter. He loves Ric Flair more than Ric Flair loves Ric Flair. So if there was anyone who was going to see if long driving's resident impossible feat—carrying the windswept, mist-choked 342-yard span of Niagara Falls—was actually impossible, it was him. Not o..

The maniac who covers classic songs using only MLB player names just tackled Oasis’ “Wonderwall”

PAUL BERGEN”Wonderwall” is an annoying song. It has been ever since you went to college and the hack down the hall with a half-tuned Fender acoustic would flub through it on loop in a doomed attempt to “woo the ladies” (his words, not yours.) Who knows, maybe you hated it even before that. Let's be honest, the Gallagher bros aren't exactly a paragon of likability and that one fateful office karaoke night certainly didn't help. But thanks to Don Zemmer, AKA the creative and possibly maladjusted mind behind the recent viral cover of Eminem's “Lose Yourself” using only MLB player names, the iconic sing-a-along suddenly has a new lease on life. LIGHTERS OUT, AMERICA.

How you feel about this depends a lot on how you feel about Oasis (meh) and baseball nerdom (SHOOT IT INTO MY DAMN VEINS). If you're precious about Brit Pop and have a sex life, maybe this isn't for you, but just try to hear “Hand Affeldt Do..

This week in problems you can’t relate to: Bernhard Langer has so many trophies he has to stack them on the floor of his mansion

Bernhard Langer has won 114 professional events in his career, dating to the early '80s, when he was a wiry, fit European Tour star, and continuing to last week, when he won his fourth Senior British Open as a wiry, fit dominant force on the PGA Tour Champions. That's a lot of clutch putts, a lot of money, and of course, a lot of hardware: cups, bowls, statuettes, weird crystal vases—and we're not even factoring in two emerald sport coats he can't keep at home.
FacebookPinterestFor those of us who finish runner-up in one B-flight tournament and insist on displaying the bowl prominently in our living-room bookcases to the despair of our wives, this sounds like a good problem to have. But for Langer it is a real problem, as evidenced by this video shared by the PGA Tour Champions.
The video showcases that Langer has been incredibly successful while also placing a priority on family. He keeps pictures of his wife and four children throughout the house but leaves many o..

Canadian tour pro plans to not use numbers for yardages this week, comes up with genius alternative

Professional golf can be a slog. The same shots, the same yardages, the same two-putt pars, over and over and over again. Sometimes you've got to spice things up, which is just what Canadian tour pro Jared du Toit is doing this week at the 1932byBateman Open on the Mackenzie Tour (no, I didn't make up that name).

Du Toit, a former Arizona State standout, plans to not use any numbers for his yardages, instead coming up with a genius alternative with caddie Nolan Renwick. Rather than telling du Toit he's got 99 yards left to the pin, Renwick will just say “Gretzky.” But The Great One isn't the only name he'll be dropping. Check out this incredible list the duo will be using this week in Edmonton:

For golfers who are also diehard pucks fans, this is “worlds colliding!” but in the best possible way. I'm sure a lot of pe..
