Idiot saws off Ken Griffey Jr. statue’s bat, statue still goes 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs

Hell hath no fury like a baseball god scorned, but on Tuesday night some Seattle-area joker/jackass decided to tempt fate anyway, sawing off the bat on Ken Griffey Jr.’s sacrosanct statue outside of Safeco Field. Behold the mind-numbing idiocy:

I assume the perpetrator of this heinous baseball crime is now lying face down in a ditch with the ghost of Ty Cobb using his spine as a spike sharpener, but it begs the question: What the hell would one do with a sawed-off bronze bat stolen from the tribute to one of your city’s most indelible sports heroes anyway? Use it as a potato masher? Bust up your ex’s car with it? Throw it in the Puget when those 12 Rainiers wear off and you’re left staring the depth of your own stupidity right in its bottomless maw?
Whatever the answer, Statue League Griffey will still be fine, of course. He’ll just choke up on it a bit and wait for that inside fastball. Mariners fans could use a little talkin..

Watch a Naval officer win Jeopardy! with $1 (Yes, ONE DOLLAR)

It turns out that the New England Patriots' come-from-behind win against the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl LI will not go down as the most improbable victory of 2017. That honor now belongs to Manny Abbell, a Naval officer, who won Tuesday night's episode of Jeopardy! with $1. That's right, ONE DOLLAR.
Abbell entered Final Jeopardy with only $1,000, which put his quest to win for a third consecutive night in serious, um, jeopardy. And things got even worse when he got the answer/question wrong and dropped to $1 after risking $999. Yikes.
RELATED: Jeopardy! contestant takes advantage of really easy golf question
According to ESPN, the Patriots only had a 1.1-percent chance of winning the Super Bowl when they trailed 28-3 in the third quarter. But there's no way that Manny didn't have less of a chance of winning at this point. He needed both of his opponents to also whiff on the final question. And he needed both of them to do something really dumb: risk all thei..

(Photo by Gregory Shamus/Getty Images)The NBA season is back, and with it, a rash of questions. But not of the “Is this LeBron James' last year in Cleveland?” or “Can anyone stop the Warriors?” variety (which, for posterity's sake, “yes” and “get out”). We're talking about the real issues at hand, ones you raise with your friends at the bar and argue about with random eggs on Twitter. And by “real,” we mean, you know, nonsense. Here are the nine (not so) burning questions for the new NBA season.

Furyk to invite Americans to see Ryder Cup course in France

Le Golf National outside Paris, the host course of the Ryder Cup next year, has been part of the European Tour schedule since 1991 and last year was the 25th time it has held the French Open.

So along with the European crowd, that’s one big advantage for the home team next year.

U.S. captain Jim Furyk hopes his American team can find time to see the course ahead of the September matches, even if they don’t play the tournament. The French Open is three weeks before the British Open, held the same week as The National on the PGA Tour schedule.

”We seem to have a bunch of players that hang out together,” Furyk said Tuesday in France. ”I would love to see them make a trip here before The Open Championship or after The Open Championship and see the golf course.”

He said he would extend the invitation to the top 15 or 20 players in the U.S. standings. Furyk understands each player sets his own schedule, which includes obligations and rest, and he said it’s not going to be a requireme..

Let’s project when Tiger Woods might make his return to golf

It is inevitable when hearing that Tiger Woods has been cleared by doctors to resume full practice to start thinking about when we might actually see him play competitive golf again. Is this dangerously premature seeing how he hasn't played a tournament in eight months? Sure. Didn't his agent Mark Steinberg just say that the 14-time major champion would take things slow as a precaution? Maybe.
But in the event Woods' practice goes better than expected, he starts getting restless, and decides he's ready to take on all comers, we might as well consider some of his options.
Option 1: Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, Las Vegas, Nov. 2-5.
Odds of this happening: Slimmer than Charles Howell III on a juice diet.
Woods will have presumably only been practicing for a couple of weeks, and there will be plenty of rust to contend with. On the plus side, this is an event he won way back in 1996, and he might be motivated to reprise this photo.
