Maple Leafs equipment manager assists on huge goal, deserves pay raise

The Toronto Maple Leafs are scary good. Outside of the Buffalo Sabres, a team currently on a 10-game winning streak, there isn't a hotter team in the NHL. Their biggest off-season acquisition, John Tavares, is off to a fantastic start. Mitch Marner, who is considered the third-best player on the team, is playing like the best player in the sport at the moment. Auston Matthews, who is already one of the top players in the sport at the age of 21, just returned from injury and had a three-point night in his first game back. They are so unfair that their equipment manager is making plays for them. Wait, what?
In the first period of Toronto's 5-3 victory over the San Jose Sharks on Wednesday night, Marner's stick broke in his own zone with 23 seconds to go. Knowing he could be on a potential odd-man rush, Marner made a B-line to the bench, where equipment manager Bobby Hastings was waiting with a new twig. Marner picked it up in stride and ended up assisting on this beautiful..

The best shot from every year of Tiger Woods’ professional career

Harry HowThis year's Hero World Challenge is a much different week than it's been in recent years for Tiger Woods. Prior to his 2014 and 2016 appearances, he fielded countless questions revolving around off-the-course issues, his health and whether or not he was truly ready to return to the PGA Tour.

This week's Hero press conference had a new dynamic, as Woods was asked to reflect on his remarkable 2018 comeback season, rather than vaguely discuss the future of a career many though was over based off his 2015 and 2017 seasons. On Tuesday, one question in particular yielded by far his most thoughtful answer of the presser, as Woods was asked what he thought his best shot of 2018 was. Have a listen:

Woods hit plenty of vintage shots in 2018 (a few at the PGA come to mind), but his case for the approach on 10 at Carnoustie is ..

Atlanta Hawks announcers switch to golf commentator mode to mock quiet crowd in Charlotte

The Atlanta Hawks' announcing team found a creative way to poke fun of a quiet crowd in Charlotte on Wednesday night. They got quiet themselves.

Check out this clip where the duo says they're going to treat the NBA game “like a golf tournament” before switching into golf commentator mode. That includes talking in hushed tones and saying one player, Kevin Huerter, made a three-pointer “from across the pond.” Jim Nantz would be proud. Have a look and listen:

To be fair, it was less than four minutes into the game and it could have been a late-arriving crowd in the Queen City. Have you ever watched the first quarter of a Miami Heat game? That makes this place look as hopping as Cameron Indoor Stadium.
Anyway, the home team Hornets got the last laugh with a 118-104 win. We're guessing it was pretty dead in the Spectrum Center by the fourth qu..

Mike Francesa said Jeremy Shockey, who caught a go-ahead touchdown in a Super Bowl, never came close to a Super Bowl ring

Sean Zanni(Photo by Sean Zanni/Getty Images for DraftKings)There is retiring on the job, and then there is Mike Francesa, who is spending retirement on the job. Francesa and facts were never simpatico even in his heyday, but the New York radio host has gone from skirting the truth to giving it a coldblooded middle finger in his return to radio.
Evidenced this week when Francesa, in a rant against Odell Beckham Jr., tried to condemn the mercurial wideout by comparing him to the four-time Pro Bowler Shockey.
“(OBJ) long ago turned into a Shockey. And Shockey got away with it because it was early in his career, early in Eli’s (Manning’s) career, he couldn’t put the hammer down. But what happened is Shockey left, and they won two Super Bowls. Shockey never saw anything close to a Super Bowl.”
This low blow failed to carry much weight considering, you know, Shockey won two Super Bowl rings.
To be fair, Shockey was on the sidelines for the Giants' 2007 championship run with injury. Howe..

This incredible Anthony Davis photo perfectly sums up his freakish wingspan

Anthony Davis is an absolute terror on the basketball court, and NBA fans have long known that even with The Brow semi-buried in New Orleans — at least, until he takes his talents to L.A. to join forces with LeBron. The 25-year-old superstar possesses point guard skills within a center's body (thanks in large part to a crazy growth spurt during high school), but his dominance, particularly on the defensive end, comes down to one word. (HINT: It's Jay Bilas' favorite word.) That's right, LENGTH.

The 6-foot-10 Davis has a freakish 7-foot-6(!) wingspan, which has led to him leading the league in blocked shots three times already in his young career. And this year, he's also averaging a career-high 1.6 steals to go with 2.7 blocks. Again, he's a terror, and on Wednesday night, a photo showing just how much of a hulking beast he is went viral. Check it out:

Former Ryder Cupper holes fantastic flop shot — in his backyard

It's been a relatively quiet couple of years for Andy Sullivan since a three-win season in 2015 earned him a spot on the 2016 European Ryder Cup team. But the English golfer caused a bit of a commotion on Wednesday when he holed a pretty nifty flop shot. In his backyard.

Watch as Sullivan clips one perfectly that flies over a giant trampoline (interesting placement) and onto his putting green before eventually winding up in the cup:

The “LEGEND” part is debatable, but that's a handy shot to have up his sleeve if he ever challenges someone to a game of golf H-O-R-S-E on his home course. And the European Tour already (sort of) bestowed an award on him for his effort:

Sullivan is off to a nice start to the new European Tour season — and he hasn't even played a tournament yet.
