Thomas Pieters says “Americans can’t drink,” rips “ridiculous” Ryder Cup setup from 2016

Sam GreenwoodThomas Pieters and Rory McIlroy of Europe react after winning their match on the 16th green during morning foursome matches of the 2016 Ryder Cup at Hazeltine National Golf Club on October 1, 2016 in Chaska, Minnesota. Thomas Pieters was the breakout star for Europe at the 2016 Ryder Cup. And in a recent interview with Bunkered magazine, the long-hitting Belgian says it helped that the rowdy Hazeltine crowds were relatively unfamiliar with him.
“For me, it wasn’t that bad because they didn’t know who I was,” Pieters, 26, said. “They didn’t have any dirt on me or anything like that. But for Rory, yeah, it was pretty hostile.”

And the witty Pieters provided an interesting reason for that hostility.
“They shouted stuff at him that you shouldn’t shout at anybody anywhere,” Pieters went on. “Maybe that’s because they sell beer at 7 a.m. and Americans can’t drink.”
Somewhere, John Daly is offended.
Pieters also ripped the “ridicu..

The latest in Phil-splaining: Disrupting Fro-Yo through robotics

Ever wonder what it'd be like to work with Phil Mickelson? No, not on your short game. Rather, imagine the five-time major champion ditching the golf garb for a casual button-down and striding into your morning strategy meeting. Of course he's going to have some fresh thinking and answers. This one-minute clip, in which Mickelson discusses his investment in Reis & Irvy's, whose company tagline is “the future of frozen yogurt,” gives a little taste of that dream (pardon the pun).
Aside from a mild hat tan line, you'd never guess Mickelson hasn't spent a career confidently tossing around buzzwords in corporate America. “I think this could be even more disruptive than Redbox has been with Blockbuster,” Mickelson says of the automated frozen yogurt vending machine. “I believe this is where the food retail industry is headed.” The product will launch in Mickelson's native San Diego. But before you rush to join Mickelson as a franchiser, there are important ques..

Johnny Miller’s tears, Tiger Woods’ red sweater, and a WAG’s special bond with Burt Reynolds

Welcome to another edition of The Grind, where we're taking Johnny Miller’s Monday tears as a sign that, sadly, he really is planning on leaving the TV booth soon. How else do you explain him choking up over Keegan Bradley winning the BMW Championship? Then again, it was an emotionally charged final round thanks in part to Tiger Woods turning back the clock with both his play and his wardrobe. How could you not have spine-tingling flashbacks with Big Cat wearing this big red sweater?
FacebookPinterestDrew HallowellSimply glorious. Why doesn’t he wear that thing more? The black sweater covering up everything but the (blade) collar of his final-round red shirt isn’t intimidating enough. Anyway, the red sweater wasn’t quite enough to get that elusive first win, but Bradley — and Johnny — sure were pleased with the outcome. Here's what else has us talking/crying.

This epic bat flip and ensuing slow trot is what Canadian semi-pro baseball is all about

If you're ever seeking light reading, we recommend, “The History of Canadian Baseball.” In all respect to our friends up north, the Canucks have given America's pastime Larry Walker, Joey Votto, and one of the most lopsided trades in Major League history. And…that's it. The country's most popular team is extinct, and its Hall of Fame's standards are so low that Pete Rose, who played all of 95 games for the Expos, is in its shrine. (Seriously.)
And yet, here we are, talking about Canadian semi-pro baseball, thanks to this wonderful bat flip and ensuing slow trot, which, to the surprise of no one, resulted in clearing the benches.

Few takeaways here:
— Canada has semi-pro baseball. Who knew?
— That staredown. My word. The batter might as well have pulled out a pair of binoculars.
— I don't think that bat has landed yet.
— The staredown is somewhat understandable, as is the emotional bat flip. At th..
