Kupcho finds redemption in NCAA title

STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) Wake Forest junior Jennifer Kupcho found redemption Monday by winning an NCAA title she squandered a year ago.

Kupcho overcame a rough three-hole stretch on the front nine at Karsten Creek with five birdies over her final eight holes for a 1-under 71 and a two-shot victory over Andrea Lee of Stanford and Bianca Pagdanganan of Arizona.

Kupcho became the first Wake Forest woman to win an NCAA golf title.

She thought she had it last year at Rich Harvest Farm until she took triple bogey on the 17th hole of the final round when her 9-iron came up just short into the water and then she three-putted for a triple bogey, losing by one shot to Monica Vaughn of Arizona State.

Kupcho had a bogey-double bogey-bogey stretch in the middle of the back nine before she poured it on.

”My assistant coach was in my ear saying, `There is going to be mistakes down the stretch, just keep fighting, just keep fighting.’ Kind of got annoying to the point, ..

Vegas sports books will take a historic beating if the Golden Knights win Stanley Cup

Ethan MillerStrange things are happening in Las Vegas these days. While one sports book isn't taking any bets on the Houston Rockets, all the others are on the brink of a historic beating because they took too many bets on the Golden Knights.

The NHL expansion team's unforeseen foray to the Stanley Cup Finals could prove rather costly to casinos that offered wagers on the expansion team winning a title in its first season. Westgate Las Vegas Superbook alone is on the hook for 13 tickets at 500-to-1 odds. And it also booked a $400 bet at 300/1, which would net a $120,000 payout.

Considering no previous NHL expansion team had ever even finished with a .500 record in its first season, it didn't seem to matter what odds the Golden Knights were given at the start of the season. But thanks to new rules for the expansion draft and some savvy moves by general manager ..

NBA prospect Lonnie Walker IV thinks we’re all living in the Matrix

If you thought Kyrie's flat-earth truthing or Jordan Clarkson's belief that dinosaurs were once pets to a race of giant humans were bad, just wait, because Miami guard, hair wizard, and NBA prospect Lonnie Walker IV just issued his “hold my beer” proclamation:
Flat, round, dinosaurs, giants, whatever. It doesn't matter, because the planet earth and the lives that occupy it are all an illusion.

Before we brand Lonnie Another Dumb Jock™, however, it's worth noting that some of the most celebrated minds currently inhabiting “earth” have echoed the same sentiment, sounding off on their suspicions that this may not be reality at all, but an indistinguishably accurate simulation of reality—like The Sims, only with better graphics. There's even a reddit thread dedicated to the theory, and that's how you know something is real.
But before we get sucked too far down this wormhole and wake up with Hugo W..

Aaron Wise wins AT&T Byron Nelson for first PGA Tour title

DALLAS (AP) Aaron Wise cruised to his first PGA Tour victory Sunday, shattering the AT&T Byron Nelson record at 23 under on a new course in a race to finish before nightfall after a four-hour rain delay.

The 21-year-old rookie shot a 6-under 65 to beat Marc Leishman by three strokes as both became the first to finish the Nelson at 20 under or better in the first year at Trinity Forest. The treeless links-style layout was defenseless with softer fairways and greens and no wind once the morning storms passed.

The Nelson celebrated its 50th anniversary with a return to Dallas after 35 years at the TPC Four Seasons in suburban Irving. Rory Sabbatini set the previous record on that par-70 layout at 19-under 261 in 2009.

Wise, the 2016 NCAA individual champion at Oregon, reached 20 under with his third birdie in the first seven holes.

Aaron Wise gets 1st tour win, shatters Nelson scoring record

DALLAS (AP) Aaron Wise had to kick his mom out of his hotel room because she was too chatty during a four-hour rain delay before his best shot at a first PGA Tour victory.

The 21-year-old rookie’s caddie had to snap him back into the moment when Wise worried if he would get to finish the AT&T Byron Nelson as daylight faded with a comfortable lead over the final holes.

Wise didn’t have to wait an extra 12 hours to celebrate, and mom got a twilight hug after a tap-in and another wave to the thinned-out crowd on the 18th green at the new Trinity Forest course.

Pulling away at the turn after the long delay to start the final round Sunday, Wise shattered the tournament record at 23 under with a closing 6-under 65 to beat Marc Leishman by three strokes as both became the first to finish the Nelson at 20 under or better.

”I did a great job of staying focused on the present today,” said Wise, who won once each on the Web.com and Canadian tours. ”That was a big ..
