Ogilvy moving his family back to Australia next year

Geoff Ogilvy’s immediate future involves fewer golf tournament and longer flights.

Ogilvy has been contemplating in the last few years moving back home to Australia, and after discussing it with his Texas-born wife, Juli, they plan to return to Melbourne shortly after Christmas.

Their daughter, Phoebe, turns 12 in October and will be starting the seventh grade in Australia. They have two sons, Jasper (10) and Harvey (8). The Ogilvys figured that waiting much longer to decide where to live would make it tougher on the children.

”We just talked about it, for lots of reasons, and we kept making pros and cons. Juli was strong on it,” Ogilvy said. ”We’re excited. I’m at the point where I’m not going to play 27 times a year. It’s going to be brutal to play from there. But you’ve got to choose life.”

Ogilvy won the 2006 U.S. Open at Winged Foot, and he counts three World Golf Championships among his eight PGA Tour victories. He also has won the Australian Open..

Tiger Woods drops the mic, an underdog makes history, and a parking lot sucker punch

Welcome to another edition of The Grind, where the only royal wedding we care about is whenever Dustin Johnson and Paulina Gretzky finally tie the knot. The (former) World No. 1 golfer marrying the heiress to the Gretzky throne tops the sixth in line to England’s crown marrying an actress most famous for her role in a USA show. And Windsor Castle has historic charm, but give me House Gretzky (or is it Wayne Manor) — the one the hockey legend just bought back — as a wedding venue any day. It's got great golf course views. Plus, the upkeep is a lot more manageable.
FacebookPinterestChris CondonBut while we wait for golf's most famous couple to set a big day that will probably cost Wayne less than the $45 million dropped on Harry and Meghan's nuptials, there's plenty else to discuss. Let's get to it.

An Indiana native’s guide to the 2018 Indy 500

Chris GraythenThe Indianapolis 500 goes green this Memorial Day weekend, as it has (just about) every Memorial Day weekend since 1911. To pay tribute, join Indiana native Jeff Vrabel for a quick refresher lap around two-and-a-half miles of pure, unbridled America.
What is it?
The 102nd running of the Indianapolis 500, still the Largest Single-Day Sporting Event in the World, no matter what those jerks from Wrestlemania try to tell you. The race remains the sports pride of the state, although the Pacers basically coming one blown goaltending call away from toppling LeBron is a real good second.
Is this still a big deal?
WE IN INDIANA WILL HAVE YOU KNOW that the 500 remains the biggest event in our state AND yours: More than 300,000 cooler-toting jorts-rocking sunstroke-developing exhaust-sniffing Race Fans will begin streaming into the Indianapolis Motor Speedway at 6 a.m. on Sunday, when an actual cannon is fired to signal the opening of the gates and wake up every last dog in Speedway..

Bjorn adds 4 assistants with wealth of Ryder Cup experience

VIRGINIA WATER, England (AP) Europe is adding a wealth of Ryder Cup experience for the team room with four more assistants to captain Thomas Bjorn.

Lee Westwood, Padraig Harrington, Luke Donald and Graeme McDowell are the latest additions to Bjorn’s staff for this year’s matches in France. Bjorn previously named Robert Karlsson as one of his vice captains.

Westwood has played in every Ryder Cup since his debut in 1997 at Valderrama, and he has compiled a 20-18-6 record. Of his 10 teams, seven ended in European victories.

”I am sure it is going to be a very different experience for me, but I am relishing having a role in helping Europe win in Paris and, in particular, assisting Thomas in his role as captain,” Westwood said. ”Of course, my ideal scenario is that I hit a hot streak of form over the summer and force my way in to the team. But quite honestly, as long as I am able to contribute to the 2018 European team in some way, I am going to be happy.”

All the random things you can learn about someone when looking up their handicap

I have a tournament coming up at my home course, so naturally upon being given the name of my opponent, I rushed to the GHIN Handicap Lookup to learn about his game. From a straight index perspective, we were about the same, but when used properly the Handicap Lookup can offer more insight than that. For instance, I could see my opponent has already played plenty this spring, but that he hasn’t played particularly well, and that his last round especially was a dud. I could tell you that he ended 2017 on a hot streak, that he plays the overwhelming majority of his golf at our home course, and that the one inordinately difficult course he played last August cuffed him around pretty good (101!).
FacebookPinterestThe Handicap Lookup isn’t perfect. It doesn’t provide specific dates of rounds (giving months instead), nor does it tell you the specific courses golfers play away from their home course (although that is viewable when reviewing your own history). But it is, in its own way, a form..

Jamie SquireEver wanted to caddie for Tiger Woods? Turns out all you needed was $50,000.
That's what one bidder donated over the weekend at the 20th Annual Tiger Jam in Las Vegas during a live auction for Woods' TGR Foundation. The donation will earn the currently anonymous person a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to carry Tiger's bag during the Wednesday Pro-Am at the 2018 Hero World Challenge.

Among the other auction items included an Acura MDX SH and rounds at Bluejack National or Diamante Cabo San Lucas, two of Woods' recently-opened courses. While those would be pretty cool experiences, neither will be as unforgettable as a four-hour stroll in the Bahamas with one of the greatest golfers of all time.
