Otaegui wins Belgian Knockout with 2-shot win over Hebert

ANTWERP, Belgium (AP) Adrian Otaegui has beaten Benjamin Hebert by two shots in the final of the Belgian Knockout to win his second European Tour title.

The hybrid format opened with two rounds of stroke play on Thursday and Friday, before the leading 64 players competed in nine-hole knockout stroke play matches.

Otaegui and Hebert both finished three shots off the lead at 5 under after the first two days and worked their way through five matches on the weekend to set up Sunday’s final at the Rinkven International Golf Club.

”I’m very happy, very relaxed now after the last nine holes against Ben that were very tight,” Otaegui said. ”I’m just very proud about my week.

”I just tried to play against myself. Obviously your opponent is just next to you but I just tried to focus on my game.”

Scotland’s David Drysdale beat James Heath of England by one shot in the playoff for third spot.

Ariya Jutanugarn wins LPGA Tour playoff at Kingsmill

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (AP) Ariya Jutanugarn arrived at Kingsmill Championship with no expectations, and it was a strategy that paid off handsomely.

The 22-year-old Thai star birdied the second hole of a playoff Sunday to win the LPGA Tour event for the second time in three years.

”I’m going to say I didn’t expect anything this week because I think I have been playing … very good like the last few tournaments and I’m still not winning the tournaments,” she said. ”So show up this week, I just tell myself I’m not going to expect anything. I’m going to really focus on the things under my control and make sure I’m going to have good commitment every shot.”

”When I’m thinking about winning, I never win,” Jutanugarn said. She became the 12th winner in as many events on the tour this season.

Jutanugarn closed with a 5-under 66 to match Nasa Hataoka (67) and In Gee Chun (68) at 14-under 199.

Jimenez holds on to win Regions Tradition for first major

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) Miguel Angel Jimenez won the Regions Tradition on Sunday for his first senior major title, closing with a 2-under 70 for a three-stroke victory.

Jimenez held or shared the lead after every round, taking a three-shot edge into the final round at Greystone Golf & Country Club. The Spaniard finished at 19-under 269 for his fifth PGA Tour Champions victory.

Steve Stricker, Joe Durant and Gene Sauers tied for second.

It was the third time Jimenez had entered the final round of a senior major with at least a share of the lead but the first one he has pulled out. He tied for third at the 2016 Senior British Open and for second at the 2016 U.S. Senior Open.

Durant and Sauers finished with matching 69s, and Stricker shot 70.

Final round of Byron Nelson starts after 4-hour rain delay

DALLAS (AP) The final round of the AT&T Byron Nelson has started after a four-hour rain delay.

Hometown star Jordan Spieth, trailing co-leaders Marc Leishman and Aaron Wise by 10 shots, was in the first group off the first tee. Threesomes were going off both nines Sunday at the new Trinity Forest course south of downtown Dallas.

The Nelson is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a return to Dallas after 35 years at the TPC Four Seasons in suburban Irving.

PGA Tour officials are hopeful of completing the round without any more delays.

The 21-year-old Wise, who was at 17 under, is looking for his first tour victory in his rookie season. Leishman is a three-time tour winner who opened with a career-best 61 and set a 36-hole Nelson record previously shared by Tiger Woods.

Rookie Aaron Wise joins Leishman atop Nelson leaderboard

DALLAS (AP) Aaron Wise shot a 3-under 68 in much windier conditions Saturday on the new Trinity Forest course, pulling even with Marc Leishman for the third-round lead at the AT&T Byron Nelson.

The 21-year-old PGA Tour rookie had consecutive birdies on Nos. 16 and 17 before a bogey on the final hole to fall into a tie at 17-under 196. He won the 2016 NCAA individual title as a sophomore at Oregon.

Leishman shot 69 after setting a 36-hole tournament record previously shared by Tiger Woods.

Hometown star Jordan Spieth couldn’t make a move from eight shots back, shooting par 71 and falling 10 strokes behind.

Wind gusted above 25 mph at times after two rounds of calmer conditions and lower scores on the treeless, links-style layout a few miles south of downtown Dallas. The Nelson spent the previous 35 years on a more conventional venue in suburban Irving.

DALLAS (AP) The wind finally blew on the new Trinity Forest course at the AT&T Byron Nelson.

Aaron Wise wasn’t rattled, not even by a bogey that dropped him into a tie for the lead on the final hole Saturday. Now the 21-year-old PGA Tour rookie is ready for another run at his first victory.

Wise shot a 3-under 68 to pull even with Marc Leishman, four shots ahead of Matt Jones and Kevin Na going into the final round.

It’s not the first time Wise has been in this position, though. Two weeks ago, he finished tied for second at the Wells Fargo Championship, two shots behind Jason Day.

Besides, Wise has won at every level – including the 2016 NCAA individual title while helping Oregon win the team championship just before turning pro. He was the first player in eight years to pull that NCAA double.

Seeking first major, Jimenez grabs 3-shot lead at Regions

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) Miguel Angel Jimenez wasn’t about to change his evening plans even with a shot at winning his first senior major championship.

Jimenez shot a 6-under 66 on Saturday to take a three-stroke lead into the final round of the Regions Tradition and planned to relax with cocktails and a cigar.

”I think I’m going to do exactly the same thing I did (Friday) night,” he said. ”I’m going to have a margarita as an aperitif, and then I’m going to have a nice bottle of Rioja (wine) and smoke a big fat cigar.”

Jimenez birdied the final hole to reach 17-under 199 at Greystone Golf & Country Club, matching Gil Morgan’s 54-hole Tradition record set in 1997. Steve Stricker was second in the first of five PGA Tour Champions majors.

Jimenez has six top-five finishes in senior majors but is seeking his first victory. The Spaniard has four PGA Tour Champions titles.

Rain shortens LPGA tournament in Virginia to 54 holes

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (AP) Heavy rain has forced postponement of play at the Kingsmill Championship on Saturday, and the tournament has been reduced to 54 holes.

Sixty players failed to finish the second round. They will do that beginning at 7:30 a.m. Sunday. After that, the field will be cut and tee off on the first and 10th holes at 10:30 a.m.

In Gee Chun leads among players who have finished two rounds. She is at 11 under, with Austin Ernst and Nasa Hataoka one shot back.

Colsaerts reaches quarterfinals at Belgian Knockout

ANTWERP, Belgium (AP) Home favorite Nicolas Colsaerts qualified for the quarterfinals of the inaugural Belgian Knockout on Saturday.

The event has an unusual format. The opening two rounds were strokeplay, then the leading 64 players competed in nine-hole knockout strokeplay matches.

Colsaerts claimed victories over Richie Ramsay, Lorenzo Gagli and Joachim B. Hansen to set up a quarterfinal against James Heath of England.

”It will be good,” Heath said. ”Obviously big home favorite, only Belgian guy left in. But honestly, you’ve got to imagine that the expectations are quite low of me beating him because he’s in good form.”

In other quarterfinals, Mike Lorenzo-Vera will face Benjamin Hebert in an all-French contest, Victor Perez of France will take on David Drysdale of Scotland, and Jorge Campillo and Adrian Otaegui meet in an all-Spanish matchup.
